Beals Library to Host Toy Town Tree Festival

The Beals Memorial Library, in Winchendon, MA, is proud to announce the First Annual Toy Town Tree Festival, presented by the Friends of Beals Memorial Library. This event will showcase trees put up and decorated by businesses, groups, and families throughout the community.

This event will run from Saturday, November 30, through Saturday, December 14, with a showcase day during the Winchendon History & Culture Center’s Holiday House Tour on Saturday, December 14. Viewing hours will be:

Monday – Thursday, 1:00-8:00 p.m.
Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
with special extended hours of 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14.

Visitors will be able to vote for their favorite trees and will also be able to bid on a tree to take home in the silent auction. (Please note: Not all trees will be participating in the silent auction) All proceeds received from this event will go towards the Children’s Library Fund.

If you have Holiday spirit and would like to decorate and donate a tree for this festival event, please contact Robert Courtemanche or Manuel King at toytowntreefestival@gmail.com for more information.

Fire Station Open House

On Sunday October 27th from 9:00 a.m. to noon the Winchendon Fire Department will be hosting an open house at the fire station. Members will be on hand to give tours around the station as well as handing out fire prevention materials. There will also be factual information available on the upcoming Town Meeting articles involving the Fire Station project in the event people have questions.

We are firm believers that an informed voter is best for the community.

Halloween Magic Show 5:00 p.m. Join us for an evening of family-friendly thrills and chills! Magician Tommy James will be visiting and performing his hilarious Halloween Magic Show starting at 7:00 p.m. This Spooktacular event will be fun for all ages! We are offering a dinner option from 5:00-6:30 for families that are interested. Each person will get 2 slices of pizza and a drink. A bake sale table will also be available. From 6:30-7:00 we will be holding a costume contest with surprise judges and prizes for the best individual costume and best family costumes.

Scary Story Night for Kids Join me, my pretties! 6:00-8:00 p.m. Join the Winchendon History and Cultural Center for a Halloween-themed scary story night for kids! You're welcome to wear costumes and bring something comfortable to sit on, like blankets, sleeping bags, or camp chairs. We will gather around the "camp fire" (indoors, on the floor) for an evening of scary stories read to you by a real witch. Recommended for kids 10 and under. Admission is free (but we always welcome donations!).

Winchendon Lions Coat Drive 9:00 a.m.- noon. Please donate new or lightly used coats, hats, gloves and snowsuits (all sizes needed). Zombie Fun Runs and Kids Halloween Party 11:00 a.m.-afternoon. Come to the Clark Memorial YMCA in your Halloween costume and enjoy a fun-filled day for the whole family!

This is a great opportunity to soak up all the spooky Halloween atmosphere you can, while you head out with experienced paranormal investigators to see what you can find. The Town of Winchendon with a population of 10,542 and a budget of $32.5 million is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Assistant Treasurer-Collector. The Assistant Treasurer-Collector is appointed by the Town Manager and is responsible for assisting the Town Treasurer-Collector in all areas of responsibility, including collection, treasury, debt management, benefit administration, bokkeeping, human resource duties and filing mandated reports with various agencies. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a tactful and effective manner; ability to deal with unpleasant or tense situations involving staff and/or the public, ability to maintain detailed and extensive records and to track deadlines, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions. An Associate's degree in business or finance in required and a Bachelor's degree in business or finance is preferred; two (2) years of experience in benefits and payroll processing, preferably in a municipal setting; or any equivalent combination of education or experience. Experience using MUNIS financial software is also strongly preferred. Starting pay for this 37 hour/week position ranges from $20.10 to $25.73/Hr. depending on qualifications.
