Corey S. Parks

COREY S. PARKS
June 26, 1963 ~ December 31, 2019 (Age 56)

WINCHENDON – Corey S. Parks, 56, of 234 Baldwinville State Road, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, December 31, 2019 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with his family at his side.

He was born in Winchendon on June 26, 1963, son of Cynthia E. (Herr) Parks of Winchendon and the late Cyrus E. Parks Jr. A resident of Winchendon for most of his life, Corey was a 1981 graduate of Murdock High School.

Corey had worked for 38 years as a machine operator at New England Wooden Ware until recently. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and going to Hampton Beach. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother. he leaves his wife of ten years, Karen A. (Charbonneau) Parks; a son Brandon J. Parks and his wife Laura of Winchendon; three stepchildren, Ryan Bussiere and his wife Karisa of Phillipston, Jacqueline Bussiere of Winchendon and Trevor LaPerle and his wife Taylor of Winchendon; a sister, Carmen M. Grover of Leominster; eight grandchildren, Blake, Ava, Dawson, Alexis, Anthony, Alivia, Bentley and Cali; his mother-in-law, Angie Charbonneau of Winchendon and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 12 PM to 4 PM.in Eugene M. Connor Post 193 American Legion, 295 School Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. David Havlin and the EMT’s.

Harriet N. Ayers

HARRIET N. AYERS
May 12, 1940 ~ January 3, 2020 (Age 79)

WINCHENDON – Harriet N. (Willcox) Ayers, 79, of 114 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Friday evening, January 3, 2020 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, with her family at her side.

She was born in Valhalla, New York on May 12, 1940, daughter of the late Wallace and Evangeline (Brown) Willcox and moved to Massachusetts at the age of six. A resident of Winchendon for most of her life, Harriet graduated from Murdock High School in 1958.

Harriet worked for many years a s a bank teller at the former Winchendon Savings Bank then did personal care for individuals in this area. At the age of 65, she learned to play the violin. She was a member of Bethany Bible Chapel. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.

She leaves her husband of 36 years, Klayton D. “Sam” Ayers; two daughters, Wendy Balko and her husband Alvin of Delray Beach, FL and Tammy Cote of Holyoke; two stepchildren, Samuel Ayers of Kirksville, Missouri and Tamara Kidder of Ayer, MA; a brother Wallace N. Willcox Jr. and his wife Nancy of Winchendon; five grandchildren, Kristi Gauthier, Douglas Balko, Jordan Harris, Justin Harris and Brooke Harris and several cousins.

At her request, there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Edmund P. Conrad

EDMUND P. CONRAD
June 21, 1938 ~ January 8, 2020 (Age 81)

PHILLIPSTON – Edmund P. Conrad, 81, of 215 Ward Hill Road, died peacefully Wednesday morning, January 8, 2020 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner, with his family at his side.

He was born in Fitchburg on June 21, 1938, son of the late Edward and Theresa (Bourgault) Conrad and was a graduate of Fitchburg High School. Ed moved to Phillipston 25 years ago.

Ed worked at Crocker Mills and then worked for several years as a delivery man and press man for City Cleaners in Fitchburg. He later worked for many years at the Town of Phillipston Transfer Station, which was named in his honor upon his retirement two years ago. In 2008, he was named Citizen of the Year for the Town of Phillipston. Ed was also well known for growing home grown vegetables at Mr. Ed’s Organic Farm.

Ed proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War.

His wife of 40 years, Claire H. (Collins) Conrad, died in 2016. He leaves six children, Lisa Couturier and her husband Jeffrey of Nashua, NH, Christopher Conrad and his wife Lisa of Fitchburg, Jean McCluskey, Kenneth Conrad of Worcester, Ronald Conrad of Colorado and Rodney Conrad of Fitchburg; a sister Kathleen Cameron of Gardner; a brother Thomas Conrad of Winchendon, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A sister, June Catalini, died six years ago.

At his request there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Burial will be in Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.

Wilfred J.

WILFRED J. "SONNY" MARTIN
April 14, 1942 ~ January 3, 2020 (Age 77)

GARDNER – Wilfred J. “Sonny”Martin, 77, of 59 Eastwood Circle, died Friday morning, January 3, 2020 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

He was born in Winchendon on April 14, 1942, son of the late Joseph Wilfred and Toini (Hakkinen) Martin and lived in Winchendon for most of his life. Sonny was a 1960 graduate of Murdock High School.

Sonny worked for many years as a crane rigger at General Electric until his retirement. He previously worked as a taxi driver, and worked at Heywood Wakefield Furniture Company and National Seat. He was a former member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a former member of Finance Board and Board of Public Works for the Town of Winchendon. A true union man, he believed in buying American. Sonny loved spending time with his grandchildren, spending time at his parent’s camp in Royalston working on cars and had enjoyed ice racing in his younger years. A man of wit, Sonny enjoyed playing pranks on friends and family and was very passionate about food.

His wife, Nancy C. (Patterson) Martin, died in 2015. He leaves three children, Catherine M. Wheeler and her husband Richard of Barre, Susan A. Sawyer and her husband Nathan R. of Hubbardston and Peter M. Martin and his fiancé Janet Hathcock of NH; two brothers, Ralph and Ronald Martin of Winchendon; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 11 A.M. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.

Calling hours in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon are Monday, January 6, 2020 from 5 to 7 P.M.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Sandra Nelson

SANDRA NELSON
October 28, 1943 ~ December 23, 2019 (Age 76)

Sutton - Sandra E. (Lindberg) Nelson, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2019 at UMass Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was born in Worcester on October 28, 1943 a daughter of the late Edmund V. Lindberg and Evelyn K. (Anderson). She attended local schools and earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Worcester State College in 1965. She later earned her Master's in Counseling Psychology from Assumption in 1977 and her Masters of Moderate Special Needs in 1986.

For 35 years, Sandra was employed as a Social Studies teacher with the Wachusett Regional School District. She also assisted for several years as a producer and assistant director for many of the schools plays and musicals including "Little Mary Sunshine".

She leaves behind her sister, Ruth I. Lindberg of Worcester, brother John A. Lindberg of Clinton and his wife, Donna, sister-in-law Marie Murphy of Westborough, nephews, Todd Lindberg of Winchendon, Brian Lindberg of Clinton, Craig Jernberg of Harwich, Jeffery Jernberg of Florida, niece Lisa Antaya of Sutton, and many close friends.

Mrs. Nelson was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert W. Nelson who died on September 28, 2019, her loving son, William R. Nelson who died in 2015 and her godson & nephew Edmund L. Lindberg who died in 2010.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Sandra's life on Saturday, January 18th from 9:30am until 10:30am at the Lindquist-Lundin Funeral Home, 36 Butler St., Worcester with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am at the Quinsigamond United Methodist Church, 9 Stebbins St., Worcester. Burial is to follow at New Howard Cemetery in Sutton. Her family asks that flowers be omitted and instead, memorial donations be considered to Running Strong for American Indian Youth, 8301 Richmond Highway, Suite 200, Alexandria, VA 22309.

Carolyn F. (Bassow) Landry

CAROLYN F. (BASSOW) LANDRY
March 27, 1935 ~ December 31, 2019 (Age 84)

Carolyn Frances (Bassow) Landry, 84, of Berlin, died peacefully Tuesday, December 31, 2019, at UMass Memorial Marlborough Hospital in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

She was the widow of Lawrence Joseph Landry and leaves their daughter, Michelle Stein, and son-in-law, Neil Stein, of Safety Harbor, Florida, and granddaughters, Jessica Stein of Clearwater, Florida, and Jillian Stein of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; their son, Mark Landry, daughter-in-law, Laurie (Evans) Landry, grandson, Michael Landry, granddaughter-in-law, Jill, and great granddaughter, Mazie of Marshfield; grandson, Timothy Landry, granddaughter-in-law, Michaela, and great grandson, Julian, of Plymouth; and granddaughter Meghan Landry, of Marshfield; their daughter, Linda Fountain, and son-in-law, Joseph Fountain of Middletown, Connecticut; grandson, Joseph Fountain of Vernon, Connecticut; and grandson, Christian Fountain, of Philadelphia; and their son, Douglas Landry, daughter-in-law, Debora Forte, grandson, Benjamin Landry, and granddaughter, Charlotte Landry, of Natick.

Born in Athol on March, 27, 1935, she was the daughter of Dr. Carlton Bassow of Athol, and Hannah (Leslie / Bassow) Atkinson of Hardwick, Vermont, and sister to Leslie "Bruddy" Bassow of Winchendon, all predeceased. She is survived by her sisters, Sheila Gillis, of Athol, and Geneva (Atkinson) Lawson, of Cary, North Carolina and her beloved brother-in-law, Alban Landry of Winchester, and cousin, David Hughey of Meredith, New Hampshire.

She attended Orange High School and was a standout basketball player. After graduating with the class of 1953, she briefly resided with her father in Binghamton, New York. She returned to Orange where she worked for various businesses in town. She married Lawrence Landry in November 1955 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Orange, and, together, they raised their four children in Athol. She loved public service and was especially proud of her employment as secretary to the Town of Athol Board of Selectmen, administrative assistant for the Town of Sherborn, and administrative assistant for the Town of Concord.

She had many hobbies, including ceramic decorating, photography, and antique collecting. She was an avid reader of historical non-fiction, especially books related to the Civil War or World War II. She enjoyed bird watching and would often hike the steep trails near Doane's Falls, the abandoned gravel roads and paths surrounding the Quabbin Reservoir, or the boardwalks through the marshes of Plum Island in search of elusive species. She spent many years researching her family's genealogy and enjoyed producing the Town of Berlin's Council on Aging newsletter, "Powderhouse Senior News." She was a fan of the New England Patriots and always looked forward to summer vacations at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, and York, Maine. She was an inventive cook and was famous for her meatball stew and hot dog casserole. Most of all, she loved regaling her husband, children, grandchildren, and many friends with hundreds of well-worn stories about any person, place, or event that fit the occasion.

A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be determined. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol, will be private.

Margaret Walsh Giannino

MARGARET WALSH GIANNINO
March 27, 1935 ~ January 3, 2020 (Age 86)

ROTONDA WEST, FL - Margaret Ellen Walsh Giannino of Rotonda West, FL died peacefully, Friday, January 3, 2020 surrounded by her family at the age of 86. She was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Elizabeth McGovern of Glangevlin, County Cavan, Ireland and James Walsh of Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Leo Giannino and her beloved dog, Baron. She and her husband owned and operated the Anderson Chrysler Automobile dealership in Attleboro, MA.

A graduate of St Peter's High School and Salter Secretarial School, both in Worcester, she lived in Plainville, MA until they retired to Newport, RI and Rotonda West, FL. She enjoyed boating and golfing. Recently, she summered in Mashpee where she enjoyed playing cards and volunteering at the Christ the King food pantry. She had a lifelong love of photography – no one could duplicate her work.

She is survived by her sister, Mary P. Moran of Worcester, MA, and her brother, John J Walsh and sister-in-law, Gail M Walsh of East Falmouth, MA; her cousin, Marge Sage of Chicago, IL; eight nieces and nephews; seventeen grandnieces and grandnephews; two great grandnieces and many wonderful friends. She is pre-deceased by her brother-in-law, Mickey Moran. She is also survived by two stepdaughters, Cheryl McGrath of Scituate, MA and Cynthia Landanno of Winchendon, MA and two step granddaughters.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Margaret's Life Celebration on Friday, February 7, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Avenue, Mashpee, MA 02649. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Christ the King Church, 3 Job's Fishing Road, Mashpee, MA on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception in the parish hall. A private Interment is scheduled in the spring.
