September 17, 2020 – Fitchburg, MA - GEAR UP Fitchburg invites community members and alumni to join in a celebration of National GEAR UP Week, September 21 – 25, 2020, with a host of virtual discussion panels and other events on social media.

The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) provide comprehensive support to Fitchburg public school students through academic tutoring, mentoring and community service opportunities with specialized focus on college and career readiness.

COVID-19 has presented GEAR UP Fitchburg with a unique opportunity to highlight the program with a series of virtual events including a Scavenger Hunt, Discussion Panel with GEAR UP Alumni, Fitchburg Superintendent Jokela, Fitchburg Mayor Stephen DiNatale, and Mount Wachusett Community College President James Vander Hooven. A special Facebook Live event will enable parents and supporters to participate in a Q & A about remote and hybrid learning and the best way to help their students success.

In addition, student favorite Victor Rojas, GEAR UP Assistant Director, will be leading a look back at past GEAR UP classes to give us a brief history of how far GEAR UP has come, what GEAR UP has done for students, and the possibilities that the Classes of 2024/2025 will have moving forward.
