MARIETTA WELLS
December 5, 1937 ~ December 27, 2020 (Age 83)
WINCHENDON - Marietta (Knight) Wells, 83, of 124 Ipswich Drive, died Sunday evening, December 27, 2020 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
She was born in Shandaken, New York on December 5, 1937, daughter of the late Sherman and Laurabell (Platt) Knight and was a resident of Winchendon for many years.
Marietta was a housewife and homemaker. She was a former member of Highland Baptist Church in Fitchburg. Her hobbies were bingo, crocheting and playing cards with family. She will be remembered as a very loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who had a heart of gold.
She leaves her husband of 62 years, Charles E. Wells Jr; three sons, Charles S. Wells and his wife Rosalind Wells of Indiana, Maurice C. Wells and his late wife Kelly Wells of Ashburnham and Clifford W. Wells; three daughters, Linda L. Shampine and her husband Kenneth J Shampine Jr. of Winchendon, Lori J. Lariviere and her late husband Roger Lariviere Sr. of Winchendon Ma. and Claire A. Wells-Legree and her husband Roger Legree Jr. of Winchendon; her brothers and sisters, Sherman Knight of Fitchburg Ma., Clifford Knight of New Hampshire, Lawrence Knight of Winchendon, Anna Belle Racine of Royalston, Nancy Little of Greenville NH; Evelyn Lafluer of Fitchburg Ma., and many grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 2 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. A calling hour will precede the service Wednesday from 1 to 2 P.M.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
BEVERLY ANN OJA
September 10, 1937 ~ January 21, 2021 (Age 83)
PHILLIPSTON - Beverly Ann Oja, 83 of Phillipston died Thursday, January 21, 2021 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, Worcester.
She was born in Winchendon on September 10, 1937, daughter of the late Birtie and Eleanor Barrows.
Beverly follows her late husband of 64 years, Leonard E. Oja who died March 27, 2020. Beverly is survived by her brothers Birtie (Jack) Barrows and his wife Susan of Florida and Denny Barrows and his wife Donna of Athol; a daughter Pamela J. Bennett and husband Roland H. Bennett of Ashburnham, three sons Scott L. Oja, his wife Tracy of Winchendon, Timothy J. Oja his wife Millie of Phillipston, and Jeffrey A. Oja of Phillipston, 4 grandchildren (one deceased) and 6 great grandchildren.
Beverly was raised in South Royalston, and lived there until her marriage to Leonard when they took up residence in Phillipston for the remainder of their lives. Beverly had a passion for working with the elderly in the family nursing home business until her back injury. She loved raising her own family, working outside in her flower garden, feeding the cardinals and especially spending time with her dog Buddy, A.K.A. Buddy-Bud.
Funeral services for Beverly will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1 P.M. in Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon. A calling hour will precede the funeral Thursday from 12 to 1 P.M.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
JAMES M. SHAPIRO
June 17, 1952 ~ January 25, 2021 (Age 83)
ACWORTH, GA - James M. Shapiro, 68, of 68 Foxtail Lane, died peacefully Monday morning, January 25, 2021 in Wellstar Paulding Hospital, Hiram, GA.
He was born in Boston, MA on June 17, 1952, son of the late Joseph and Georgia (Seele) Shapiro and graduated from Brookline High School. Jim later graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Degree in Education.
Jim proudly served his country as member of the United States Air Force. He served for 22 years, and served two tours in Turkey and one in Thailand. He also served in this country and was stationed in New Hampshire, the Pentagon, Arizona, California, Idaho and Illinois. Following his retirement from the military, he and his wife settled in Georgia, where they have lived since 1995.
Jim was employed at Source America as a project manager. He was also a member of the American Legion. In earlier years, Jim spent many summers at the former Camp Chanrudoma in Winchendon, where he met his wife, Wendy. Jim most enjoyed spending time with his family. He was also a trivia buff, enjoyed birdwatching and attending car shows.
He leaves his wife of 41 years Wendy D. (Lord) Shapiro; three children, Amanda L. Shapiro and her husband David Carter of Dallas, GA, Joshua J. Shapiro and his wife Ayesha of Dallas, GA and Zachary J. Shapiro of Trinidad, Colorado; a daughter-in-law, Viktoriya G. Shapiro of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Chelsea, Rylee, Brandon, Alexis and Evelyn; a sister Helen Siegal of Ponte Vedra, FL as well as nieces and nephews. A sister, Marilyn Seifert, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at a later date and will be announced by Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon.
Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
