Briahna Bouchard, from Murdock High School has been selected by the MSAA as the Massachusetts National Honor Society Central Region Student of the Year for 2021.

Briahna exemplifies the very best in the tenets of the National Honor Society. She truly is a scholar as evidenced by earning honor roll status all four years. Her girls track team was recognized for their overall scholarship. Presently, Briahna is enrolled in the schools "dual enrollment" program and takes college courses at Worcester State University. Her leadership is evident as the President of the NHS Chapter and her work on the school's student council. Improving her leadership was important to her and she participated in several leadership workshops at the state and local levels.

What made Briahna special to our selection committee was her commitment to service in the community, as shown by her volunteering, dedication, and leadership in the chapter's "Wreaths Across America" program. Placing wreaths on the graves of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in December and then cleaning up in January is a service done out of honor and respect. Under her leadership the chapter fundraises to raise the money to pay for the wreaths.

If recognition as a nationally ranked track athlete isn't enough, Briahna then volunteers with the team at the local "Mass State Triathlon" supporting other athletes continuing competition after high school. She works registering athletes, body marking, manning water stations, and helps distribute awards. Briahna hopes to major in health science in college and her adviser, Stephanie Rondeau offers, "Any school or program would be lucky to add Briahna to their ranks."

It is clear that Briahna is a talented, intelligent, caring, and capable leader who has demonstrated how putting the ideals of NHS into practice can have a meaningful impact on the community.

Congratulations to Briahna Bouchard, Murdock High School, her fellow NHS Chapter Members, their advisor, and of course the community she serves so well.
