"Long Live the Thing" on September 4 in Peterborough

The folks that have brought you The Thing in the Spring & Broke: The Affordable Arts Fair since 2008, are putting on a big outdoor celebration of music, behind the townhouse, 70 Main Street in downtown Peterborough NH, called LONG LIVE THE THING on Saturday, September 4.

This show features a substantial cast of some of the most exciting music happening around the country today: Superwolves (Bonnie Prince Billy & Matt Sweeney), Arooj Aftab (recently on President Obama's summer music list), Laraaji, Angel Bat Dawid, Joe McPhee / Chris Corsano / Paul Flaherty, Ava Mendoza, Little Wings, Sarah Louise, and kicking it off will be localish killers Gilliver. Things kick off at noon and go until 10pm. The show is all ages, and tickets are pay what you want and available via thethinginthespring.com.

All proceeds will be going to local mutual aid and arts non-profits.

There will also be a couple of food trucks, Feeding Tube Records, and some information booths featuring the groups that we are donating to and a couple of others whose work we support, and think you should too.

Masks are recommended for the show, and if the weather is nasty, the show will be in the Townhouse, and in that case masks will be required.

In-Person Entertainment Returns to Nova Arts in Keene

(August 23, 2021) - Nova Arts is proud to announce a return to in person entertainment at 48 Emerald St in Keene NH, this week with a full and varied schedule.

Becky Karush's Tuesday Writers meet at the space from 5-7, of course on Tuesday. Becky has been leading walk-in writing salons at Nova this month, and they're free and open to all levels.

On Thursday it's Irish Night with renown song collector and composer Randy Miller. Each month Randy plays reels, jigs, and tunes offering both historical context and anecdotal backstories, and the music is timeless and moving; we’ve even had some dancing. This week, from 6-8, and remember the kitchen closes at 7.

Friday we have our first hip hop show, featuring the amazing ladies of New Fame, pushing positive vibes and upbeat amazing rapping and r&b. They've opened for Rakim, KRS One, Hannibal Burress, Redman, and Kool Keith to name a few. Keene's own MC, Adeem, now going by Adam and the Flood, will be opening.

Saturday night Senie Hunt returns to the space, bringing his West African percussive guitar playing and wild looping. David Kontak and his incredible musical inventions will be starting things off.

Saturday afternoon from 2-4, Sam Diedrich will be closing out our Saturday piano series, made possible by a grant from NH State Council on the Arts and Hundred Nights.

For concerts, doors usually open by 7:45pm unless otherwise specified, tickets are available at novaarts.org, at Brewbakers cafe, or at the door. Masks are required for events, and you can check out more Covid safety protocols at the website as well.

Nova Arts is supported by and under the fiscal sponsorship of Arts Alive.
