Lisa I. Alward

LISA I. ALWARD
February 1, 1966 ~ October 4, 2021 (Age 55)

FITCHBURG - Lisa I. (Gravelle) Alward, 55, of 456 Princeton Road, died Monday, October 4, 2021 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Boston.

She was born in Winchendon on February 1, 1966, daughter of Ann Dunton of Ashburnham and the late Harold Gravelle. Lisa was a graduate of Oakmont Regional High School. She had been a resident of the Ashburnham, Gardner and Fitchburg area all of her life.

Lisa had formerly worked in quality control at Engineering Data Solutions of Gardner. She enjoyed painting, doing ceramics and puzzles, drawing and singing. She also enjoyed going to the beach and casinos. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandson.

In addition to her mother, she leaves two sons, Kevin Gravelle of Gardner and Carl Penttinen of Gardner; a grandson, Isaac Penttinen; her brothers and sisters, Harold Gravelle Jr. of Fitchburg, Pauline Nicholas of Gardner, William Gravelle and wife Thelma of Gardner, Arlene Tessier of Gardner, Cheryl Blouin of Gardner, Brenda Cortinas and husband Daniel of Gardner and Amy Dunton of Ashburnham; her boyfriend, Phil Vigue of Fitchburg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, James Gravelle and Jerry Gravelle, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 1 P.M. in Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, NH. There are no calling hours.

Thomas J. Harty

THOMAS J. HARTY
October 2, 1969 ~ October 7, 2021 (Age 52)

Thomas J. Harty, 52, of Springfield, died on October 7, 2021.

He was the son of Geraldine M. (Lucey) Harty and the late Richard S. Harty. He attended the St. Thomas School in West Springfield, and graduated from The Winchendon School in Winchendon, MA. He attended Northeastern University and Berklee College of Music.

Tom was a gifted guitarist and a valued member of many bands and duos over the years, playing clubs and concerts throughout the region. He was also active in local real estate. For the last several years, Tom was his father Richard's devoted caregiver, tirelessly attending to him with love, dedication and compassion. His father passed away one day after Tom died.

Left to cherish his memory are his mother Geraldine, and his siblings Caroline, Cathleen, Annemarie, Michael and Joseph. Tom was predeceased by his brother Patrick. Tom will also be deeply missed by his brother-in-law, Lee, his sisters-in-law, Lisa and Julie, and his niece and nephews, Grace, Patrick, Jack, Ryan, Daniel, Matthew and Brendan. He also leaves behind legions of loving friends, many from his grade school days, all of whom considered Tom to be their best friend.

Calling hours will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 12-2pm at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street. A Celebration of Life will follow from 2-3pm. All Covid protocols will be followed and face masks will be required.

Marcia E. Mattos

MARCIA E. MATTOS
December 9, 1943 ~ October 13, 2021 (Age 77)

WINCHENDON - Marcia E. (Smith) Mattos, 77, formerly of 85 Woodlawn Street, died peacefully Wednesday evening, October 13, 2021 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, with her family at her side.

She was born in Fitchburg on December 9, 1943, daughter of the late Marcus Smith and Violet (Yelle) Smith Rolf and attended Fitchburg High School. She had been a resident of Winchendon for many years until moving to Gardner three years ago.

Marcia worked as a certified nursing assistant for 35 years at Fitchburg Healthcare until her retirement. She will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Her husband of 48 years, William H. Mattos, died in 2011. She leaves three daughters, Penny McMullan and her husband Mark of Brunswick, GA, Gayle Mezzanotti and her husband William of Ashburnham and Kimberly Mattos and her companion Gary Page of Gardner; one son, William J. Mattos and his wife Lois of Shirley; seven grandchildren, Cassie Moore and her husband Dan, Sarah Mezzanotti, Tiffany McKenna and her husband Bill, Chad McMullan, Jennie Kiriakos and her husband Mike, Briana Cormier and husband Jeremy and Adam Boulanger and wife Alyssa; 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Marcus Smith Jr of Gardner and Edison Smith of CT; two sisters, Joan Stone of TN and Vivian Vuerich of Erving, MA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Marcia was preceded in death by a brother John Smith.

Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
