Ernest J. Meattey

February 9, 1928 ~ October 24, 2021 (Age 93)

Ernest J. Meattey, 93, of Hinsdale, and formerly of Fitzwilliam, died peacefully on Sunday, October 24, 2021, at the Applewood Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, after a period of declining health.

Ernest was born February 9, 1928, in Fitzwilliam, the son of the late Ernest Sr. and Tyyne (Jarvis) Meattey. He attended local schools and was a lifelong resident of Fitzwilliam and Hinsdale.

Ernest had a lifetime career, over 32 years, with the Boston & Maine Railroad. He enjoyed gardening, watching Red Sox baseball, trips to Maine, bird watching, his numerous dogs, and fishing and hunting in his youth.

Survivors include his son, Darryl Meattey and his wife Lois of Fitzwilliam, his sister, Marjorie Caouette of Winchendon, MA, 7 grandchildren; Dominic Meattey of Sullivan, Daniel Meattey of Fitzwilliam, Caritia (Volante) Krakow of Colorado, Caley Volante of New Mexico, Caryzma Volate of Keene, Eryn (Boyd) Marshall of West Chesterfield and Heather (Boyd) Hays of Machias, Maine: and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Madeleine, his son, Jeffrey Meattey, his daughters, Cherie Volante and Donna Boyd, his brother, David Meattey, and his sister, Edith Prentiss.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 10:30 am in Pine Grove Cemetery on Royalston Road in Fitzwilliam, NH.

Gerald Young

November 22, 1929 ~ October 27, 2021 (Age 91)

Gerald Robert Young (Jerry), 91, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2021.

He was born on November 22, 1929 in Winchendon, Massachusetts to the late Hiram R. and Marian D. (Bancroft) Young. He moved to Severna Park, MD in 1969 and resided there for over 45 years.

Mr. Young had a long and distinguished career with the National Security Agency. He served in a variety of assignments ultimately becoming the Deputy Director from 1988 through 1990. Mr. Young received the Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Executive in 1988 from President Ronald Reagan. He received the National Security Medal from President George H.W. Bush in 1990.

Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lucille (Kloman) Young and his brother, John B. Young. Jerry is survived by his sister, Joan Russell, his daughter, Leah Rayburn and husband Charles, his son, John C. Young and wife Tracey, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousin.

There will be a memorial service followed by a reception on Monday November 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakcrest Retirement Community Chapel, 8800 Walther Blvd., Parkville, MD.

October 23, 2021 (Age 52)

Warwick, MA - Carol A. Kahler, 52 of Warwick, MA died Saturday (10-23-2021) at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. She was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Barbara and Earl Eastman.

Carol was a people person who spend many years as a stay at home mom until she took her talents to Picadilly Farm in Winchester, NH and touched many during her time there as the shop keeper. She then went on to be the Store Manager at the Bookstore at Hampshire College. In her down time she ran Four Kyds Farm in her backyard which included goats, chickens and rabbits. Many people knew her for her goat milk soap that she sold at Picadilly Farm as well as many craft fairs around the tri-state area. Anyone that had the pleasure of spending anytime with her knew she was a special person with an incredible story.

Carol is survived by her parents Barbara and Earl Eastman of Florida, husband of eighteen years, Kenneth Kahler of Warwick, and her 4 children: Matthew Pietrzak and his wife Kaylla of Vernon, Mary Pietrzak and her fiancé Ian Hunt of Winchendon, Charlotte and Laura Kahler of Warwick, and her grandchildren, Bentley and Rhett Pietrzak, and Scarlett Hunt. She is also survived by her sister Jennifer Olszowy and her husband Mark and her niece Mackenzie Olszowy of Virginia, as well many friends and family.

This is an incredibly difficult time for all of us as it was a sudden and unexpected passing.

She will always be with us in our hearts and memories.

There will be celebration of life for Carol at a later date to be announced.
