Jane Rae Tate

JANE RAE TATE
July 8, 1930 ~ April 20, 2022 (Age 91)

Jane was born in Marblehead, MA in 1930, and was adopted as a baby into the Moeckel family of Fitchburg. She made Fitchburg her home for her entire life, until her health began to decline at age 90 after the unexpected passing of her beloved son Jim in March 2020. She moved into long term care at Bear Mountain in North Andover, MA in 2021, and passed peacefully there in her sleep on April 20.

Jane attended Fitchburg High School, and then worked for the Fitchburg Sentinel and radio station WEIM in Fitchburg. She cherished her time at WEIM and had a long career there as the office manager, retiring in 1999 after 27 years.

Jane was very active into her late 80s and loved to travel. She accompanied her family on memorable trips throughout the US as well as Canada, England and Egypt. She went on cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal, and went on frequent bus trips throughout New England with her friends. Her favorite travel memory was parasailing at age 81 in Maui with her son Jim and daughter Cher. She was also an avid animal lover and an expert crossword puzzle solver.

A highlight of her life was the reunion in 2006 with her biological siblings (sisters Janice and Pat and brother Edward and their families) after finding them with the help of a genealogist hired by her son and daughter.

Jane will be remembered by everyone who met her for her quick smile and kind heart. She will be missed most of all by her beloved family: daughter Cher Tate and granddaughters Allie and Zoey Tate of North Hampton, NH; her surviving brother Edward Sparhawk; her nephew Sam Fasano (and wife Michelle) and their children Leah Queen (and wife Amanda and daughter Royce) and Kara Clay (and husband Peter and their children Grayson, Landon, Beaumont and Lucy); her niece Patti Slattery (and husband Steve) and their children Janice (and Aaron) Wolfe and Adria (and Nash) Oliver (and Patti's 9 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Ethan and Kathryn Wolfe and Elias, Jacob, Noah, Luke, Levi and Jael Oliver.)

At Jane's request, a private celebration of life will be held on May 14 at her favorite place in the world, Nubble Lighthouse in York ME, where her family will spread her ashes. Donations may be made in her memory to the Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue in Winchendon (www.ahimsahaven.org).
