Arline L. Tenney Arline L. Tenney

ARLINE L. TENNEY
June 23, 1936 ~ October 12, 2022 (Age 86)

WINCHENDON - Arline L. (Maliska) Tenney, 86, of Winchendon, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, October 12, 2022 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, with her family at her side.

She was born in Winchendon on June 23, 1936, daughter of the late Anthony and Florence (Gauthier) Maliska and was a lifelong resident of Winchendon. Arline graduate from Murdock High School with the Class of 1954. She had been voted the best female athlete and dancer of its class.

Arline worked as a certified nursing assistant for many years. Her most recent job was working as a bus monitor for Van Pool until her recent retirement. She was a long time member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Arline was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Tom Brady. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Her husband of 56 years, Guy E. Tenney Jr., died in 2011. She leaves four children, Daniel Tenney and his wife Linda of Winchendon and their children Christina, Emily and Beau; Kirk Tenney of Athol and his children Tiffany, Victoria, MacKenzie and Jacob; Amy Mizhir and her husband Joseph of Winchendon and their children Tucker and his wife Sarah Bye and Joey; Timothy Tenney and his wife Suzanne of Sterling and their children, Michael and his wife Kayla and Alysha Raimo and her partner Blake; her daughter in law, Lisa Tenney of Winchendon and their children Guy M., Jenna Tenney and her partner Peter McConnell and Shea Tenney, Alex Rodriguez Sr; five great grandchildren, Randi Murphy, Alex Rodriguez Jr, Julien, Levi and Layla. She also leaves two sisters, Marilyn Parks of Winchendon and Jacqueline Gilliam of Gardner and many nieces and nephews. Recently, she had enjoyed the companionship of a long time friend, Leo Lafrennie. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Maliska, William Maliska and Anthony Maliska and two sisters, Jean Woodard and Phyllis Demmaura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at 11 A.M. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 52 Spruce Street, Winchendon. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

RUTH C. STEWART

Stewart, Ruth C. Age 89, of Sherborn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 13, 2022 after a period of declining health.

Ruth was the beloved wife of 51 years to the late John Stewart. She was the devoted mother of Cindy Stewart Laakso and husband Brian of Medfield and Martha Stewart and husband Jay Young of Winchendon. Cherished Gram of Dylan Smith, Brandon (Sarah) and Skylar Laakso (James) Natalia Guffenberg (Tom), and Danielle Stevens (Jim).

Elizabeth M. Smith

ELIZABETH M. SMITH
September 23, 1927 ~ October 10, 2022 (Age 95)

Elizabeth M. "Betty" Smith of Winchendon passed peacefully on October 10, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Betty was born on September 23, 1927 in Lawrence, MA and was the daughter of V. Russell and Rose (O'Neill) Murphy.

Betty married her beloved husband John J. Smith, Sr. "Jack" in 1950 and they moved to Winchendon where they raised a beautiful family of six children. They celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage together.

Betty is survived by her children Catherine Reilly, John J. Smith, Jr., Thomas, Darlene, Michael and his wife Lisa, Ann Mary, Elizabeth and her husband Francis Boutell. She also leaves seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and a brother Paul J. Murphy of North Andover, Massachusetts, along with several much-loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Jack, Betty was predeceased by her brothers Russell, Bernard, Charles and Laurence Murphy and her sisters Clare Murphy, Arlene Hillard, and Bernice Sullivan.

Betty worked as a telephone operator, secretary to the Town of Winchendon Assessor and Tax Collector, and was a treasured paraprofessional in the Memorial School Kindergarten for many years until her retirement.

Betty was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Winchendon, MA and St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Baldwinville, MA She was a member of the Winchendon Garden Club. Betty was an excellent baker, an avid reader, and a philatelist (stamp collector).

Betty's greatest joy in life was spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville, MA.

Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

Calling hours will be on Sunday, October 16, 2022, from 3:00 to 5:00 in the Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

Suzanne Lemieux

SUZANNE SAWYER LEMIEUX
January 6, 1953 ~ October 8, 2022 (Age 69)

Suzanne Sawyer Lemieux, 69, of Taylors, South Carolina was born January 6th, 1953. She went to be with her Saviour on October 8th, 2022. Suzanne, a native of Winchendon, Massachusetts, was the daughter of the late Gerald David Sawyer, Sr. (of Sawyer Pharmacy) and Shirley Evelyn White Sawyer.

Suzanne loved her Lord Jesus Christ more than anything else. She had a loving heart for people and shared that as a member of Outreach Church, where she faithfully served. Always looking for a way to brighten someone's day, she enjoyed spending her evenings creating gifts for the ones she loved. Her world was quietly doting on her husband, children, and grandkids.

Surviving are her husband, Howard Lemieux of the home; two sons, Ryan Lemieux (Priscilla) and Brandon Lemieux (Lois) all of Greer; a daughter, Katie Pyhala (Mark) of Greer; three step-sons, David Lemieux (Flavia) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Scott Lemieux (Margo) of Orange, Massachusetts, and Steven Lemieux (Melissa) of Gardner, Massachusetts; one brother, Kevin Sawyer (Debbie) of Rindge, New Hampshire; two sisters, Brenda Caron (Mike) of Dublin, New Hampshire and Jill Sawyer of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother, Gerald David Sawyer, Jr. and one grandchild.

Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at Eastside Apostolic Lutheran Church, 2200 Mays Bridge Road, Greer, SC 29651.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Monaghan Baptist Church, 1500 West Parker Road, Greenville, SC 29617, conducted by Pastor Roy Geesey.

MARY E. DUMONT
November 23, 1932 ~ September 23, 2022 (Age 89)

Mary E (O'Malley) Dumont, 89, died peacefully Friday, September 23, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

She leaves her loving husband of over 30 years to Ronald E. Dumont; three daughters, Cindy May and her husband Gordan of Ellenton, Fl, Karen Denehy and her partner Caroline Bloodworth of St. Petersburg, FL; Terri Ruschioni and her husband Ricci of Winchendon, MA; two brothers, Bernard J. O'Malley of Fitchburg, MA, Thomas O'Malley of Gardner, MA; three sisters, Helen Cain of San Jose', CA, Barbara Maillet of Gardner, MA, Alice McGovern of Templeton, MA; 14 Grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 step-children, Gary, Richard and Mark Uguccioni; 12 Step-grandchildren; 16 step-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by two sons, Frederick W. Tenney Jr. and Anthony E. Tenney; one step-son Dario Uguccioni; one daughter Donna L. Michaud; two granddaughters, Pamela G. Michaud and Angela M. Cutting; two brothers, John O'Malley and William O'Malley; and one sister Bernice "Ruth" Van Zandt.

Mary was born in Winchendon on November 23, 1932 a daughter of the late William J. and Bernice (Lyon) O'Malley. She graduated from Murdock High School with the class of 1950. She worked for Sodexo USA food service for over 25 years, and CAPS Collaborative in the mini school program for over 10 years. She was also a local favorite bartender for the many different organizations she belonged to.

Mary was a member of St. Vincent de Paul church in Baldwinville, MA. She was a life time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Winchendon Rod and Gun club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Moose club, AMVETS and the Grange. She was an avid bingo player and card player. She enjoyed bowling and square dancing.

Her funeral will be held on October 12, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville, MA.

Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

Calling hours with the VFW Aux. service will be on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Stone Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA 01475.

J.F. Norman Gionet

JOSEPH FRANCIS NORMAN GIONET
July 7, 1934 ~ October 7, 2022 (Age 88)

LEOMINSTER - Joseph Francis Norman Gionet, 88, of Leominster, formerly of Shirley, Winchendon and Edgewater, Florida peacefully passed away Friday, October 7, 2022, surrounded by his family, at his home.

Norman was born in Shirley, July 7, 1934, the youngest of fourteen children born to Francis and Mary M. (Hachey) Gionet and resided in Shirley for most of his life before moving to Florida then returning to Massachusetts.

Norman leaves his wife of 68 years, Dorothy L. (Holbein) Gionet; three sons, Kenneth C. Gionet and his wife Cindy of Shirley, Kevin F. Gionet of Winchendon, Garry L. Gionet and his wife Jacqueline of Leominster; two daughters, Karen M. Green of Quincy, Lisa A. Gionet of Leominster; his sister Annette Reese of New York; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren with one on the way.

Norman served his country for nine years in the Army National Guard. A machinist by trade, Norman worked for many years at Harvard Machine & Tool Company and later at Frequency Sources in Chelmsford before retiring in 1998. He was very proud of working with and making parts for NASA in the first Space Shuttle Program.

Norman very much enjoyed his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his greatest joys and lit up his life whenever they visited. He enjoyed family cookouts, holidays as well as his visits to Hampton Beach and Florida. Norman was always busy whether it be home improvements, building or fixing something, crafts or helping a family member. A devout Catholic, Norman was a longtime member of St. Anthony's Church in Shirley. Norman's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Simonds-Sinon Cancer Center, Dr. G., JoAnn, Beacon Hospice, especially Jennifer, Katie and Gloria, for the kindness and compassion provided to Norman during his illness.

Norman's funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at St. Anthony's Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Dennis Benjamin

DENNIS J. BENJAMIN
October 29, 1942 ~ October 4, 2022 (Age 79)

WINCHENDON - Dennis J. Benjamin, 79, of Winchendon, died unexpectedly at home Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Born in Fitchburg on October 29, 1942, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rita (Dignard) Benjamin and had been a resident of Winchendon for many years. Dennis was a graduate of Narragansett Regional High School, Worcester Junior College and Clark University. He later earned his Masters' Degree from Fitchburg State College.

Dennis was devoted to education and worked as a substitute teacher for a few years before being employed at The Walter E. Fernald School, Templeton, MA where he taught life skills to the mentally challenged for over 25 years. The last few years, before COVID, he was employed as a van driver by GAAMHA in Gardner, MA. In his earlier years, he worked at Chevalier's Furniture in Worcester, Wilson's Department Store in Greenfield, Sargent Wood Products in Gardner, and as a security guard at Simplex. His hobbies included history, travel, politics and collecting antiques. Dennis enjoyed going to Rietta Ranch and was an avid viewer of The Antiques Road Show and American Pickers. He was also an animal lover and enjoyed a number of pets through the years. He was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and attended Mission of Grace Church in Gardner.

Dennis leaves his wife of 42 years, Petronella (Van Vliet) "Nellie" Benjamin; his nephew Joe Benjamin of Whatley. MA; his godchild Robert J. Caffrey along with 8 nephews and nieces in the Netherlands. He also leaves family and friends in the Netherlands and Germany. Dennis was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Benjamin and a nephew, Matthew Benjamin.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 2 P.M. in Mission of Grace Church, 358 Pleasant Street, Gardner. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow downstairs at the church in Heikkila Hall.

Frederick C. Smith

FREDERICK C. SMITH
September 29, 1937 ~ October 6, 2022 (Age 85)

GARDNER - Frederick C. Smith, 85, of Gardner, died Thursday, October 6, 2022 after a brief illness.

He was born in Baldwinville on September 29, 1937, son of the late Kenneth and Elsie (Turgiss) Smith and lived most of his life in Gardner.

Fred leaves his beloved wife of 65 years and high school sweetheart Alda E. (Moschan) Smith; two children, Jeffrey Smith and his wife Laura and Holly Mara and her husband John; grandsons, Jack Mara, Patrick Mara and his wife Katie and Jeffrey Mara; a brother, K. Arthur Smith of Westminster; a sister, Charlene Wagner of Winthrop, Maine and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Marie Moschan and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Lois Moschan.

Fred taught math and science in the Gardner public school system for more than 30 years before his retirement. He was a graduate of Gardner High School and earned his BA at Fitchburg State University and his Master's Degree from Assumption College. He was a member of the National Guard, which he entered at the age of 17.

Fred was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of Hope Lodge of Masons, the Elks, Otter River Sportsmen's Club and the Trentino Club of New England. Throughout his life, Fred and Alda travelled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and Iceland. He especially enjoyed visiting their extended family in Italy.

Fred cherished the time spent with his grandkids and family and greatly enjoyed reading, especially history. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and gardening.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 11 A.M. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 79 Cross Street, Gardner.
