Lucille C. Lawrence, 97, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2022 at home surrounded by her family. A hard working and staunchly self-reliant woman, she spent her last 25 years at Turtle Creek, Beverly, where she lived independently, enjoyed Bingo, puzzles, and word search. She continued to make new friends even at the age of 97.

Her parents Charles Bisson and Albia Boudreault moved from Quebec to Manchester NH where she was born, the second youngest of 6 children. At age 5 her mother became ill and the family returned to Quebec City, Canada, where Lucille was placed in a catholic orphanage and kindly cared for by the nuns of Notre Dame until age 13. At age 18, after saving enough money, she independently traveled to Winchendon MA to work in the White Brothers Mill where they manufactured denim. It was there that she met and married her 1st husband, Herbert Gauthier, father of her three sons. He spent 5 years away in the army during WW2 and after his return, they spent several happy years in Winchendon. Herbert tragically died at the young age of 34.

Lucille had taught herself to speak, read and write English. She worked very hard to raise her family alone and eventually ended up living in the North Shore area. Lucille spent many years at the King's Grant Inn, Danvers, as their supervisor of the housekeeping and laundry department. She made lifelong friends there and was frequently bumping into former workers who remembered her fondly. In 1971 Lucille was re-married to Robert Lawrence and enjoyed 32 years with him until he passed on in 2007 at age 90. They enjoyed travel, spending time with family, and especially visiting Lucille's large and loving extended family in Quebec City.
