#1 Movie of 1922 is Highlight of Park Theatre's 100th Anniversary Party

Acclaimed accompanist Jeff Rapsis will provide live score of Harold Lloyd comedy Grandma's Boy

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (April 25, 2022). The Park Theatre is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the opening of the original Park Theatre with a major fundraising party on Sunday, May 1 at 5:00 p.m. The event will include guest speakers, dedications, historic exhibits, music by Bernie and Louise Watson, and master cellist Andrew Koutroubas. The crowning moment of the evening will be a screening of the number one movie the year the original Park Theatre opened. The movie will be Grandma's Boy, a comedy featuring one of the great silent-era comedians, Harold Lloyd. The film has been meticulously restored. It will have a live score composed and played by one of the most highly regarded silent film accompanists in the country, Jeff Rapsis. Jeff presents, composes movie scores, and accompanies silent films all over New England and the U.S. and has played for the Park Theatre many times. His first film at the new Park Theatre happened last Halloween when he accompanied the classic Phantom of the Opera film from 1925.

Tickets for "The 100 Party" fundraiser are $50 each and include champagne, hors d'oeuvres, and cake. A cash bar will also be available. Tickets can be purchased at theparktheatre.org or by calling the theatre box office (603) 532-8888. The Park Theatre is located at 19 Main Street in Jaffrey, NH.

Nova Arts is proud to continue in person entertainment at 48 Emerald St in Keene NH!

On Thursday, May 5, author Ben Shattuck will be reading from his debut nonfiction book Six Walks: In the Footsteps of Henry David Thoreau. Friday, May 6 will be a Nova Comedy Night featuring Alingon Mitra, John Baglio, and Gilman Seymour. On Saturday, May 7, the band Murphy's Groove will perform.

Ben Shattuck, a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, is a recipient of the PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize and a 2019 Pushcart Prize. He is the director of the Cuttyhunk Island Writers' Residency. His writing can be found in the Harvard Review, The Common, the Paris Review Daily, Lit Hub, and Kinfolk Magazine. He lives with his wife and daughter on the coast of Massachusetts, where he owns and runs a general store built in 1793. His wife--comedian, actress, and New York Times bestselling author Jenny Slate--will be joining him.

Alingon Mitra is a stand up comedian known for his tight jokes, original thoughts, and affable presence. He has appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and Adam Devine's House Party on Comedy Central. In addition, he wrote for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah and Adam Ruins Everything.

Beginning his career at the tender age of 19, John Baglio quickly rose to the top of Boston's gritty comedy scene and has become a mainstay all over the east coast. With his playful attitude and affability, he has the uncanny ability to win over any audience as he weaves his dumb opinions through his personal yet relatable material.

Gilman Seymour will also perform.

Murphy's Groove was born during the latter part of pandemic quarantine. Band leader Jim Murphy was writing songs and working them up in his studio, sending out grooves to keyboardist Paul Nadeau and bassist Doug Morton, and throughout this process, a band was formed. Murphy's Groove will be doing some of these songs along with songs from Jim's last two albums Jump and Shout and Attic Heat. Their new album release is planned for April 2022. Jess Hutchins and her band will open.

North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation Approves Real Estate Purchase for Baldwinville Station Restaurant

Funding supports popular family-owned and operated restaurant

The North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation (NCMDC), the economic development arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce recently granted a $67,000 loan in partnership with Athol Savings Bank to purchase the real estate that houses Baldwinville Station Restaurant at 9 Circle Street in Baldwinville.

The Baldwinville Station Restaurant is a family-owned and operated breakfast and lunch establishment, which is open 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. seven days a week and is a popular breakfast spot in Baldwinville.

"When we bought the business four years ago, we concentrated on running the restaurant like we had when we owned Rockin' Robins on Main Street in Athol," said Shawn Graham, who has owned the business since 2018. "Thanks to this partnership with Athol Savings Bank and support from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corporation, we're able to focus on taking care of our loyal customers."
