Park Theatre Holds Fundraiser Screening for Peterborough Community Theatre

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (July 11, 2022) The Peterborough Community Theatre in Peterborough, New Hampshire, experienced a significant setback with the loss of its air conditioning system on June 26. They have had to close their doors since then. They are working on getting it back as soon as possible.

To help out, The Park Theatre performing arts center in Jaffrey is dedicating a return screening of TOP GUN: Maverick at The Park Theatre as a fundraiser for the Peterborough Community Theatre. All net ticket revenue for the Saturday, July 16, 7:00 p.m. screening of the #1 hit movie of the summer will be donated to the theatre.

"Any independent movie theatre has a tough time staying in business these days with all the at-home streaming services. So when a cinema needs to shut down for any reason, for any period, it can be catastrophic. We thought we could help out a little bit by holding a benefit screening for our neighboring theatre just north of us while they get their air conditioning system repaired. We hope people will come to the special Top Gun screening and maybe make a donation as well. We hope the Peterborough Community Theatre will be re-opened very soon," said Steve Jackson, CEO and managing director of The Park Theatre.

Fans of The Peterborough Community Theatre are asked to stop by The Park Theatre the night of July 16, buy some tickets and help their neighboring venue, New Hampshire's oldest movie theater. Peterborough Community Theatre owners Vanessa Amsbury-Bonilla and Kevin Goohs work hard to bring the region the best movies out there.

There will also be donation jars in the lobby of The Park Theatre during this special screening.

Advance Tickets for July 16, 7:00 p.m. TOP GUN: Maverick fundraising screening can be made by visiting theparktheatre.org or by calling the box office (603) 532-8888. Tickets for the screening are $9 for regular admission and $8 for seniors, students, children 12 and under, teachers, and active military. Tickets can also be purchased at The Park Theatre box office.

The Park Theatre performing arts center is located at 19 Main Street in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire. The facility is fully accessible.

Nova Arts Events This Weekend

Looking for some good entertainment in Keene NH? Nova Arts has a lot going for you!

There are 3 great performances this week. Friday, July 15 Breanna Barbara, Saturday, July 16 Séan McCann, and Sunday, July 17 Mary Lattimore with Michael Roberts opening.

A southern occultist juxtaposed in the middle of the city, Breanna Barbara writes songs that make your soul dance, songs that make you question how many lives you've led, and if you ever lived at all.Through her rambling of the earth, she traced a map constellated with pins, strings, and patterns. Here's one that traces St. Augustine to New Orleans, to New York City, knotting the places where she once lived. Over here, Nashville is tacked: a keepsake for her first album, 'Mirage Dreams', which she recorded with Andrija Tokic, If you squint, these motifs might start making sense but don't be fooled: the full picture is yet to come. Marisol Zilske opens.

A lot has happened in the almost 10 years since Séan McCann exited the Canadian folk rock arena-filling Great Big Sea he co-founded in 1993. He's released five successful solo albums touching on a range of subjects from Canadian life and culture to spotlighting national hardships like the infamous 2016 wildfires that devastated Fort McMurray, Alberta, in which he partnered with the Canadian Red Cross. A philanthropist as much as he is an artist, McCann also organized a songwriters' benefit in 2017 in support of veterans suffering with PTSD and addiction. In recognition of these efforts and his other advocacy work for people living with mental health and addiction issues, McCann earned the Order of Canada in 2020.

Mary Lattimore is a Los Angeles-based harpist. She experiments with effects through her Lyon and Healy Concert Grand pedal harp, concocting half-structured improvisations which can include both ambient glitter and unsettling noise. Her first solo record, the Withdrawing Room, was released on Desire Path Recordings in 2014. The solo recordings that followed, At the Dam and Collected Pieces, were released by Ghostly International.

On his 2nd solo album, Sympathizer, Michael Roberts (of Wooden Dinosaur and The Rear Defrosters) takes us into the woods to wonder at the ways humans make sense of their place in the world. In nine simple folk songs, Roberts takes us on a meandering journey through field and forest, where animals, trees, and landscapes serve as the subjects and objects of narratives which question what it means to connect to outdoor spaces in a time of rapid technological advancement.

Nova Arts is supported by and under the fiscal sponsorship of Arts Alive.
