The Winchendon Senior Center vans are available to Winchendon residents 60 years old and older, for local transportation to shopping, social events, medical appointments, and similar activities, with priority given to medical appointments. The van is available for longer distance medical runs to Worcester and surrounding towns. Please call the Senior Center at least 24 hours in advance to reserve the van.

The Senior Center is open Monday – Thursday, 8:30am to 2:30pm, and Friday, 9:00am to 1:00pm.

ALL ABOUT BATS
Thursday, August 11, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Join DCR's bat biologist as we explore the world of bats. We will look at the myths and misconceptions about these important creatures, learn about the threats they face, and what we can do to help them. After the presentation, take an optional walk with us where we will search for bats using a detecting device that will allow us to hear bats as they echolocate.

Dive into the Beals Memorial Library's Summer Reading Club

The Beals Memorial Library in Winchendon invites the whole community to set sail for some good books this summer by joining their Summer Reading Club! This year's theme is "Oceans of Possibilities." The library will have fun programs, activities, stories, and more for the whole family to enjoy. Register now to participate!

From June 27 to August 6, the Beals will be celebrating and promoting literacy with their Summer Reading Club, open to participants of all ages. Children who sign up can read and record up to 9 hours this summer and for every 90 minutes of reading, they'll get to spin the wheel to win some fabulous prizes! Teens and adults can join in on the fun, too! Read, record, and rate up to 10 books this summer. For every book you log, get one entry for a chance to win a prize of your choice from a selection of amazing prizes! Teen and adult participants who read 10 books will receive a special browsing bag to fill with a bag of books from the library's book sale.

Splash into the library's summer programs by joining them on Wednesday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. on the library lawn for the Beals Beach Bash! There will be music, crafts, lawn games, and more! Be sure to wear a swimsuit and bring a beach towel for some water fun.

The Summer Reading Club's programs and events are sponsored by the Friends of the Beals Memorial Library and the Winchendon Cultural Council. Some of the prizes this summer were generously provided by Subway of Winchendon, Lickity Splitz, Brooks Auto Services, Toy Town Barber, and the Glen Caffé.

August 2022 Events at Otter River State Forest and Lake Dennison Recreational Area

Public programs at Otter River State Forest and Lake Dennison Recreational Area begin on 5/20/22 and run through Labor Day. All programs are free and open to the public, a parking fee may apply. Bring water, wear sunscreen/bug spray, and dress for the outdoors. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended for hiking programs. An adult must accompany all children. Walk along the shore of Lake Dennison with the Park Interpreter. We'll explore the changes to the landscape while we discover old cellar holes and talk about the history of the area. Meet at the Lake Dennison beach by the lifeguard towers. Appropriate for ages 8 and above. About one mile over moderate terrain.

We bring the nature center to you! Check out pelts, skulls, and other items related to the animals that live in the park. Stay for five minutes or an hour! Bring your questions.

Animals must use all their senses every day to find food and survive. The Town of Winchendon is seeking a full time Executive Assistant in the Office of the Town Manager. This position is responsible for providing a variety of complex administrative, analytical, and professional duties including leading the daily office activities of the Select Board, preparing agendas, packets and Executive Session meeting minutes, licensing businesses, managing the town's insurance, processing department payroll and invoices, managing department budgets, overseeing and assisting with the Town's website and other social media. Must have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to plan projects and to meet deadlines. This position requires attendance at bi-weekly Select Board evening meetings. Associates or Bachelor's degree or five years' administrative experience in a municipal setting required, or any equivalent combination of education and municipal experience. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, extremely detail oriented professional who can work with employees, volunteers and the general public with ease. The position requires a high level of confidentiality, selfprioritization and impressive organization skills. $28.42 to $36.38 per hour, depending on qualifications. TREASURER/COLLECTOR

The Town of Winchendon with a population of 10,364 and a budget of $32.5 million is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Treasurer/Collector. The Treasurer/Collector is appointed by the Town Manager and is responsible for all administrative and management work involving the receipt, expenditure, and custody of municipal funds, the investment and bonowing of money, the custody of tax title properties, and the collection of all money due to the Town. Position involves collection, treasury, debt management, benefit administration, bookkeeping, human resource duties and filing mandated rep01is with various agencies. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a tactful and effective manner; ability to deal with unpleasant or tense situations involving staff and/or the public, ability to maintain detailed and extensive records and to track deadlines, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with intenuptions.

Bachelor's degree in business or finance is preferred; at least four (4) years of experience in a senior financial management capacity, preferably in a municipal Treasurer/Collector's office. Ce1iification by the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association is desirable. Must be bondable. Experience using MUNIS financial software is also strongly preferred.

Starting pay for this 40 hour/week position ranges from $31.37 to $40.15/Hr. depending on qualifications. DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

The Director of Development performs a variety of administrative and technical work. Administers day-to-day and long-range land use and community planning effmis. Implements planning strategies identified in adopted plans. Assists Town boards, commissions, including the Winchendon Redevelopment Authority, as needed and/or directed. Manages and executes projects related to master planning, land use, downtown revitalization, zoning, parking/traffic/transpmiation/economic development, affordable housing, energy, cannabis permitting, and as assigned by the Town Manager. Majority of work is performed under typical conditions. Some outdoor work is required for inspection of various land use developments and construction sites, and involves exposure to all weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, and occasionally to fumes and/or airborne particles. Serves as direct repmi for Conservation Agent, Planning & Development Coordinator, and Planning Land Use Clerk. Bachelor's degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, or a closely related field, with a Master's degree prefened. Three (3) years, or more, of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning. Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year-for-year basis, deemed appropriate by the Town Manager. Stariing pay for this 40 hour/week position ranges from $31.37 to $40.15/Hr. depending on qualifications.
