The Winchendon Senior Center vans are available to Winchendon residents 55 years old and older, for local transportation to shopping, social events, medical appointments, and similar activities, with priority given to medical appointments. The van is available for longer distance medical runs to Worcester and surrounding towns. Please call the Senior Center at least 24 hours in advance to reserve the van.

The Senior Center is open Monday – Thursday, 8:30am to 2:30pm, and Friday, 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The Big Move Downstairs at Beals Memorial Library was postponed from September and October, but it will still be happening. Exact dates will be announced when they're firm. HEAL Winchendon Offering Financial Coaching Workshops

HEAL Winchendon, in conjunction with the Winchendon CAC, is offering a free financial coaching program to any residents who are interested. The program runs for eight weeks with a flexible schedule and is available in both English and Spanish. Coaching will be scheduled at the Winchendon CAC, 273 Central St. To enroll, fill out the form at HEAL Financial Coaching Sign-Up (Google form) or call 978-621-4524.

Free "Rainbow Dinners" for LGBTQI Seniors in Ashburnham

Ashburnham, MA - Ashburnham Community Church will begin to host free "Rainbow Dinners". The dinners will invite LGBTQI Seniors (50+), their friends and families. The first dinner will be held Friday, September 9, 2022. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. "Rainbow Dinners" will continue through the end of the year on the second Friday of each month. Dates will include October 14, November 11 and December 9. Please check our Facebook page for future dates.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

The Director of Development performs a variety of administrative and technical work. Administers day-to-day and long-range land use and community planning effmis. Implements planning strategies identified in adopted plans. Assists Town boards, commissions, including the Winchendon Redevelopment Authority, as needed and/or directed. Serves as direct repmi for Conservation Agent, Planning & Development Coordinator, and Planning Land Use Clerk. Bachelor's degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, or a closely related field, with a Master's degree prefened. Three (3) years, or more, of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning. Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year-for-year basis, deemed appropriate by the Town Manager. TOWN ACCOUNTANT

The Town of Winchendon is offering a HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE for the position of Town Accountant. With a population of 10,364 and a budget of $32.5 million the town is seeking a highly qualified individual to join its management team in the role of Town Accountant. The position manages the development and execution of the accounting operations of the town. Professional accounting and auditing work related to the maintenance of the Town’s financial records and the expenditure of Town funds in compliance with Mass. General Laws and the Town’s Charter. This position involves considerable interaction with department heads and staff, including the School Department. The position establishes policies and procedures to ensure fiscal accountability for all departments, reconciliation of town financial records, assistance with budgeting and capital planning, and preparation of various reports. Supervises the Assistant Town Accountant.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field; five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, of which at least three years are in municipal accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of Massachusetts municipal government procedures, general laws, and procurement; MUNIS financial software and possession or ability to obtain certifications as a Massachusetts Certified Governmental Accountant or Certified Public Accountant. Some knowledge of Massachusetts procurement preferred.
This is a benefited, non-union 40 hour week HYBRID position with twenty hours in office at Town Hall and twenty hours remotely, Monday through Thursday, with some flexibility.
