New Pope Francis Documentary Has One-Night Screening at Park Theatre

"In Viaggio" special screening on Monday, March 27 at Jaffrey theatre. A pre-recorded panel discussion follows film

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (March 20, 2023) On Monday, March 27 at 6:30pm, The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, New Hampshire is presenting the brand new documentary film IN VIAGGIO: The Travels of Pope Francis.

IN VIAGGIO: The Travels of Pope Francis is a decade-long chronicling of the travels of Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic church across all corners of the world. Composed mostly of archival footage, the film grants rare access to the public life of the pontifical, not only from the elevated security of a pulpit but from the more democratic grounds of unpaved streets and vast public avenues.

IN VIAGGIO, which translates in Italian to En Route follows the travels of Pope Francis. In the first nine years of his pontificate, Pope Francis made trips to 53 countries, focusing on his most important issues: poverty, migration, environment, solidarity, and war.

Academy Award® nominated director Gianfranco Rosi follows the Pope's Stations of the Cross and creates a dialogue between archival footage of Francis' travels, images taken by Rosi himself, recent history, and the state of the world today.

The film will be followed immediately by a pre-recorded panel discussion about Pope Francis, his mission and methods, and issues raised in the documentary. The participants are:

  1. Ricardo da Silva, S.J. (Jesuit priest, assoc. editor America Media, Columbia Journalism School)
  2. Christiana Zenner (Theology/Ethics/Ecology Professor, Fordham University)
  3. Natalia Imperatori-Lee (Theologian, Manhattan College)
  4. Joshua McElwee (editor, National Catholic Reporter)
  5. Moderator: David Gibson - (award winning religion journalist and director of the Center on Religion and Culture, Fordham University)
The documentary has received a perfect 100% Fresh critics score on RottenTomatoes.com. The film will be screened in The Park's 333-seat Eppes Auditorium.

The Park Theatre has partnered with Magnolia Pictures to be part of this nationwide film screening on March 27.

"Dueling Pianos" Interactive Live Concert Comes To Jaffrey

The Park Theatre presents two "dueling" pianists this Saturday, March 25. They take audience requests, and the outrageousness begins

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (March 20, 2023) One of the newest musical phenomenons is "dueling piano" concerts. One such event is coming to The Park Theatre in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, this Saturday night, March 25, at 8pm.

It has been said that a dueling piano show is quite literally "the most fun one can have with one's clothes on!" It is a massive "to the top of your lungs" sing-along with all your friends! Two grand pianos are center-stage with a team of outrageously talented pianists that seem to know every song ever written.

Each show is different because it's all request, and you or your friends might even get called up on stage for a bit of good-humored fun and some unforgettable YouTube moments.

Dueling piano shows are request-oriented, interactive sing-a-long shows wherein two piano players sit across from each other and trade songs.

The dueling piano audience is used for the dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include country vs. rock, men against women, punk vs folk, etc.

Reserved tickets for Dueling Pianos are $25. They can be purchased in advance by visiting theparktheatre.org or calling the box office at (603) 532-8888.

The Park Theatre performing arts center is located at 19 Main Street in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire. The facility is fully accessible.

This Weekend at Nova Arts

This week at Nova Arts two very exciting shows that are sure to bring down the house. We've got a heavy metal and rock night that's bursting with raw skill as three bands take our stage: Jeopardy, Kurtosis, and Vale End. The week continues with a performance by The Gravel Project, a talented Boston based band going on their fourth studio album.

Friday, March 24 we welcome Jeopardy to Nova Arts. They are a heavy metal rock group who believe in the fundamentals of the music they play...to thrash and drink beer! Also performing we have Kurtosis, the self described dumpster baby of Black Sabbath and Black Flag; and Vale End, Keene locals that play heavy metal with an alternative and hard rock edge. Tickets are $15 and can be bought at the door or online. Doors are 7:00 p.m., music begins around 7:30; seating is first come first served.

Saturday, March 25 Nova Arts is the next stop on The Gravel Project tour! The Gravel Project has perfected the blending of rock, jazz, and world music, infusing the power of soul into their sound, giving it a 70s blues and psychedelic feel. We're very excited to have them play! Opening for the Gravel Project is My Neighbor George, a Worcester band made up of Clark University students. Their common passion for music led them to this electric sound, incorporating strong grooves, striking vocal harmonies, and sleek solos. Tickets are $20 and can be bought at the door or online. Doors are 7:00 p.m., music begins around 7:30; seating is first come first served.

Nova Arts is supported by and under the fiscal sponsorship of Arts Alive, and is supported by the Putnam Foundation and the Osier Fund. Events take place at 48 Emerald St, within Brewbakers Cafe & Terra Nova Coffee. novaarts.org

Joint Statement on FirstLight Power's Oil Sheen

Statement from Senator Jo Comerford, Representative Susannah Whipps, and Representative Natalie Blais

Three winters in a row, oil has leaked into the Connecticut River because of malfunctions in FirstLight Power's Turners Falls facility.

Today we call on FirstLight to stop the current leak, clean it up, prevent its spread, and do a full review of the facility to ensure its proper operation. We ask FirstLight to do this work within the bounds of sound environmental practices.

After last year's 300-gallon leak at FirstLight's Turners Falls facility – where weather impeded clean up as it has this year--we spoke at length with FirstLight to ask what measures it was taking to both address the spill and to ensure its facility was in proper working order.

But once again we have another winter leak that threatens the health of the Connecticut River. And once again FirstLight is promising vigilance.

This time and going forward, FirstLight must do better.

Thank you to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) staff, with whom we have spoken, who are in contact with FirstLight and actively monitoring and engaging in the situation.
