Wednesday 8/16: Seafood salad, garden salad, chips, white bread, applesauce.
Thursday 8/17: Chicken Parmesan, pasta, green beans, multigrain bread, fresh fruit.
Friday 8/18: Hot dog or roast pork with apple glaze, baked beans or carrots, warm peaches, coleslaw, roll.

The Winchendon Senior Center vans are available to Winchendon residents 55 years old and older, for local transportation to shopping, social events, medical appointments, and similar activities, with priority given to medical appointments. The van is available for longer distance medical runs to Worcester and surrounding towns. Please call the Senior Center at least 24 hours in advance to reserve the van.

The Senior Center is open Monday – Thursday, 8:30am to 2:30pm, and Friday, 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Auditions for "ELF, the Musical" at Theatre at the Mount

Theatre at the Mount, Gardner, Massachusetts announces auditions for its holiday production of ELF, the Musical. Director Kate Sheridan, Music Director Katrina Baer and Choreographer Kim Soel are looking for a large adult/teen cast and a small ensemble of children.

Based on the hit film of the same name, ELF, the Musical follows the story of Buddy, an orphaned infant who accidentally crawls into Santa's sleigh one Christmas Eve and is transported back to the North Pole, where he is adopted by Santa's elves. Buddy grows up thinking himself to be an elf until his enormous size and less than extraordinary toy-making abilities make him realize he is human. Resolving to find his true identity, Buddy makes his way to New York City and winds up helping its cynical inhabitants discover the true meaning of Christmas. Embrace your inner ELF!

When? Adults/Teens - Tuesday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 16 at 7PM; Children – Tuesday, August 15 at 5:30PM.

All auditions are by appointment only.

What? Adults/Teens - Please prepare a short vocal selection that best shows your abilities and range (bring sheet music if selection is not from the show). Wear appropriate footwear for dance audition and expect cold-readings from the script for key roles.

Kids – we will teach you a song and a short dance piece at the audition.

The "Summer Sunrise Yoga Series" will be held at the Winchendon Community Park, 86 Ingleside Rd., on Wednesday mornings at 6:30 a.m. for six weeks, from July 12 through August 16. HEAL Winchendon Offering Financial Coaching Workshops

HEAL Winchendon, in conjunction with the Winchendon CAC, is offering a free financial coaching program to any residents who are interested. The program runs for eight weeks with a flexible schedule and is available in both English and Spanish. The Winchendon Skillshare Program Presents Citizen Science!

The Winchendon SkillShare Program is happy to announce the start of our Citizen Scientist Skillshare Program! The USA National Phenology Network (USA-NPN) monitors the influence of climate on the phenology of plants, animals and landscapes and are looking for volunteers to join our Citizen Science Program called Nature's Notebook and help us collect information on plant and animal species in the Winchendon area. Your data, and data from scientists will help to develop tools to support a wide range of decisions made routinely by citizens, managers, scientists, and others, including decisions related to allergies, wildfires, water, and conservation. No prior experience or long-term commitment required! We welcome amateur naturalists and botanists as well as seasoned professionals. Learn more about phenology and help us record data for scientific research.

H.O.P.E. Offers Summer Programs for Kids 5-13

House of Peace and Education (H.O.P.E.) in Gardner is offering two two-week-long sessions and one three-week-long session free of charge for kids aged 5 through 13 this summer. Sessions will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The program includes sports and games, interactive learning, meals and snacks, and more.

The sessions are:

July 3-14 (Gardner transportation offered)
July 17-28 (Gardner transportation offered)
July 31-August 18 (Winchendon transportation offered)

Sessions will be held at 29 Pleasant Street, Gardner, MA.

Winchendon Music Festival: Arcadia Players 7:00 p.m. This program will feature Italianate vocal and instrumental renditions of British folk tunes, performed by soprano Hailey Fuqua and a string ensemble led by Artistic Director Andrew Arceci. The material is culled from works by two late 17th/early18th century musicians from Lucca, Italy, Francesco Geminiani (1687– 1762) and Francesco Barsanti 1690–1775) who, as was popular among Italian composers of the time, immigrated to London. In 1742, Barsanti published "A Collection of Old Scots Tunes," and in 1749, Geminiani produced "A Treatise of Good Taste in the Art of Musick." Winchendon Music Festival: George Lykogiannis, piano 7:00 p.m. Noted Greek-American pianist and accordionist George Lykogiannis, will perform works by his compatriot Manos Hatzidakis (1925-1994), the great 20th century Catalan composer Federico Mompou (1893-1987), and the beloved Spanish composer/pianist Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909). Winchendon / Templeton Animal Control is seeking qualified candidates for a part time position as an Animal Control Officer (ACO). This position is for Mondays and Tuesdays from 7AM to 7PM with on call hours from 7PM to 7AM. Candidates should be self-motivated; able to communicate effectively with people; be able to compassionately and confidently handle distressed and occasionally vicious animals; type comprehensive reports; issue citations; and testify in court.
Experience is preferred but not required. New hires will receive on the job training as well as State mandated classes for animal control certification at no cost.
Candidates must have an active driver’s license and pass a background check.

Maintenance Mechanic/Carpenter Position

The Winchendon Housing Authority is accepting resumes for one (1) Maintenance Mechanic/Carpenter Position. Any person applying must be a self motivator with the ability to work with and for a diverse population. Must possess a Massachusetts General Contractor's Supervisor license unrestricted. This position requires a highly diversified person with knowledge of but not limited to every phase of building construction, Kitchen/Bathroom remodeling, Facility-Property Maintenance, Basic plumbing, oil/propane and electric/ASHP heating systems, Basic electrical knowledge, and exterior/interior painting. Minimum landscaping skills must be, lawn planting and care, shrub planting and trimming, tree pruning and snow removal with both truck or tractor powered equipment and hand powered tools. This position requires an Active Massachusetts Drivers License with no more than a step 10 driving record. This person must be able to lift and move appliances or other items over 75 lbs repeatedly over a long duration. The Maintenance Mechanic/Carpenter will need to be on call for afterhours/weekend emergencies as required. Required qualifications are solid understanding of Massachusetts/International Building Code. Complete understanding of Facility and Property Maintenance. Preferred understanding of Microsoft Windows 10 operating system with Microsoft Office 365 software package, Internet systems.

The finalist must be able to pass a CORI/SORI review and Physical Fitness/Complete Drug Screening exam before hire. This is an hourly position working 40 hours per week. Pay will be set in conformance with State DL&I wage. Resident Services Coordinator

Part time, 24 hours per week, $20/hour

The primary function of the Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) is to effectively assist in maintaining resident tenancy through a variety of programs enabling them to age in place.

Major responsibilities:
Welcome new residents, establish contact with existing residents and explain the resident services program and its offerings.
Assist residents who desire access to benefits and services and inform residents and provide support in accessing services successfully.
Develop relationships with local non-profit agencies, social service agencies/providers, residents and community.
Host monthly activities and educational programming with residents related to health and wellness by locating local providers/vendors to present on a variety of related topics.
Provide limited case management and advocacy for residents when services are not being provided by the general service community.
Plan and execute two social events every year with the property manager.
Work in collaboration with Templeton and Barre Housing Authorities.

Location and Commitments:
Templeton Housing Authority Monday and Wednesday (Friday if Monday is a holiday), 12hr/week.
Barre Housing Authority Tuesday and Thursday, 12 hr/week.
Keep a record of resident engagement and assistance provided.
Provide a brief report for the board of directors in Barre and Templeton each month.
Report to and work under the direction of Shaina Cunningham, Winchendon CAC Program Manager.
Required to complete certification by Massachusetts Association Resident Service Coordinators (MARSCH) within the first two years of employment.

Candidate Requirements:
Have a valid driver's license.
Excellent follow through and punctuality.
Have caseworker and advocacy experience.
Have experience working with people and a willingness to learn.
