June Young

JUNE BEVERLY YOUNG
August 15, 1936 ~ September 29, 2023 (Age 87)

June Beverly (Price) Young, 87, of Kingston, MA and formerly of Fitchburg, MA, passed away on Friday, September 29th, surrounded by her family.

June was born in Gardner, MA on August 15th, 1936 to the late Raymond and Lillian Price. After graduation from Murdock High School in Winchendon in 1954, June graduated from the Pierce School in Boston, and worked as a secretary at Yale University Medical School. In 1961, June returned to Winchendon, and assumed the role of secretary to the President of the Winchendon School.

It was at the Winchendon School that June met her beloved husband, the late John E. Young, Jr., an English Teacher and Coach. In 1962, June and John married, and, over the next 27 years, they raised their four children together until John's untimely death in 1989.

In 1987, June had enrolled at Fitchburg State University to earn her B.A. in Education and to fulfill her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. Channeling her grief after John's death, she completed her degree program and graduated in 1991. This led to a 15-year career as a first grade teacher at St. Bernard's Elementary School in Fitchburg. As an educator, June was extraordinarily devoted to her students, loving and supporting them as if they were her own children.

June was a remarkable example of strength, resilience, faith and love. She was a great conversationalist, making friends easily wherever she went. An avid reader, June enjoyed a good round of golf or a good game of cribbage, scrabble or dominoes. She loved the beach, the sun and any time spent outside. Yet June's greatest joy in life came from time spent with her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, never missing a dance recital, school activity, or, especially, a sporting event. Anyone who sat next to June at a basketball game heard her shriek "Box Out" more than once.

Her family, extended family and wide network of friends strongly appreciated her exceptional kindness and concern for them, and she will be sorely missed by many.

June is survived by her daughter, Susan E. (Young) Sweeney and her husband Paul of Pembroke, MA, her son Jay Young and his wife Janet of Fairfield, CT, her son Michael Young and his wife Michelle of North Attleboro, MA, and her son Rick Young and his wife Corin of Winchester, MA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband Tom, Kirstyn and her husband Mackie, Shauna and her fiance Michael, Caroline, Reilly, Ryan, Jack and Briella; and her three great-children, Eilish, Declan and Niall. June also leaves behind her brother, Donald Price of Williamston, MI, a source of tremendous strength for her and for her family over the years as well as her brother-in-law, Joseph Young and his wife Katherine of Glendale, Arizona and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be held at Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main Street, Kingston, MA on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, 272 Main Street, Kingston on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A private burial will be held at St. Bernard's Cemetery on Saturday, October 7, 2023.
