Theater at the Mount Holding Auditions for "The Music Man"

Theatre at the Mount, Gardner, Massachusetts announces auditions for its upcoming production of THE MUSIC MAN. Director Terrie Hyde, Music Director Senja Morgan and Choreographer Alison Hall are looking for a large adult/teen cast and a small ensemble of children.

THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the case are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian. By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic, and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best.

For detailed character descriptions, including vocal ranges needed for each part, go to https://mwcc.edu/campus-life/tam/auditions/

Kids' auditions will be held on Monday, December 4 at 5:30 p.m.; Teens and Adults will audition on Monday, December 4 and Tuesday, December 5 at 7:00 p.m. sharp. All auditions are by appointment only. Callbacks to be scheduled as needed.

Please prepare a short vocal selection that best shows your abilities and range (bring sheet music if selection is not from the show). Also expect cold-readings from the script for key roles.

To schedule an audition appointment, call 978 630-9388 or email your request to box-office@mwcc.mass.edu

Performance Dates: February 23, 24, March 1, 2 at 7:30 p.m.; March 3 at 2:00 p.m.

Tentative Rehearsal Schedule: Sundays from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.

For more information contact Professor Gail Steele at 978 630-9162 or visit the Theatre at the Mount web site at http://theatre.mwcc.edu

Theatre at the Mount Presents "Elf: The Musical"

Based on one of the most beloved holiday films in recent years, Elf the Musical transforms the story of Buddy the Elf into a lavish musical opening Thanksgiving weekend at Theatre at the Mount. The holiday-film-turned-musical features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (Disney's Aladdin, The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan (Annie, The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone).

After mistakenly crawling into Santa's toy sack as a young orphan boy, Buddy is raised by elves at the North Pole. Unaware of the fact that he is human, Buddy's enormous size and lack of natural toy-making skills that the other elves possess eventually forces Buddy to face the truth. With Santa's blessing, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, Walter Hobbs, a cynical non-nonsense workaholic. Buddy also discovers that most New Yorkers no longer believe in Santa and the spirit of Christmas. The problem is Santa's sleigh will only fly if people believe in him. Buddy's unrelenting sunny disposition and profoundly ingrained love of Christmas not only creates hilarity amongst the cynicism of New Yorkers but may save Christmas.

Elf the Musical features David Allen Prescott as Buddy. Prescott was last seen as Felix Unger in Theatre at the Mount's production of The Odd Couple. The show also features Meagan Dame as Jovie, Becky Ruccio as Emily Hobbs, Xavier Cormier as Michael Hobbs, Jeremiah Riordon as Santa, and Jon Simmons as Walter Hobbs.

You certainly don't have to be a fan of the movie to enjoy the musical version of Elf. Each song in the show adds depth and detail to the characters and the story – reminding us about the incredible magic of Christmas and its message of generosity toward all people.

Elf the Musical takes the TAM stage November 24, 25, December 1 and 2 at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on November 25 and 26 and December 3 at 2:00 p.m. A special sensory-friendly performance of Elf the Musical takes place on December 2 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Theatre at the Mount Box office by calling 978-630-9388 or online at https://mwcc.universitytickets.com/
