GARDNER, MA - November 8, 2023 - Mount Wachusett Community College President James Vander Hooven, MWCC Foundation Director Carla Zottoli, and Veterans Services Director Robert Mayer welcomed Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 907 Jim Benton, Mike Zlotnik, and John Durling on November 6 for the presentation of their annual contribution to the Mount Wachusett Community College Veterans Scholarship.

The Mount Wachusett Community College Veterans Scholarship was established through the generosity of the Vietnam Memorial Committee in 2003 as "The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Scholarship." In establishing this fund, the committee recognized the important role played by Mount Wachusett Community College in insuring that the sacrifices and service of veterans who served in the Vietnam conflict will not be forgotten. In 2008, the committee requested that the name be changed to the MWCC Veterans Scholarship.

"Chapter 907 of the Vietnam Veterans of America has been directly and indirectly supportive of Mount Wachusett Community College veterans for twenty years," stated Robert Mayer, MWCC Director of Veterans Services. "Their annual donation to the scholarship, and the example they set in the community has helped inspire other organizations and individuals to follow suit. There are now six annual scholarships dedicated to veteran students. I am so grateful that the older generation of veterans is so committed to the success of the current generation."

In addition to fundraising by the VVA Chapter 907, the Patriot Riders of America Chapter 3, and the Xtreme Riders of Framingham have also showed generous support to the VVA for the MWCC Veterans Scholarship.
