JOHN E. WHIPPLE
February 21, 1940 ~ November 20, 2023 (Age 83)

John E. Whipple, known affectionately to many as "Cheffy", passed away on November 20, 2023, just shy of his 84th birthday. Born in Winchendon, MA on February 21, 1940, John resided in Templeton, Massachusetts and was a reliable and supportive pillar of the community. A retired machinist from the manufacturing sector, he was a generous soul who found joy in hunting, playing pitch, and gardening. John was a dedicated member of the Otter River Sportsman Club, Baldwinville Legion, and the Senior Center. Above all, he was a loving family man and friend, cherishing the company of his loved ones and expressing profound gratitude for the wonderful people in his community.

John is survived by his daughters, Michelle Whipple-Duclos, and Kathleen Marean; his step-daughters, Nancy Flinkstrom and Karen Carlson; his step-son, Steven Holmes; and their respective partners. He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude Whipple, his wives, Joanne and Janet Whipple, and his significant other, Sherrie Fontaine.

Visitation will be held at Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts, on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. A burial service will take place at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts, on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00am.

PATRICK J. 'PAT' GREENOUGH
May 6, 1944 ~ November 25, 2023 (Age 79)

Patrick J. Greenough, 79, of Jaffrey, died peacefully on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a very sudden illness.

'Pat' was born on May 6, 1944, in Fitzwilliam, NH, son of the late Theodore and Jessie (Duplease) Greenough. He was raised in Fitzwilliam and was a 1964 graduate of Keene High School. Soon after graduation, Pat enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. He achieved the rank of Sergeant after serving two tours of duty in Vietnam and earned his honorable discharge in 1972. Pat was a lifetime member of John Humiston American Legion Post #11, and Jaffrey Memorial Post #5613 VFW. For many years, he proudly bore the American Flag in the parades and military ceremonies in town. He had been the chair of the Memorial Day Committee and always helped set and take down the American Flags around Jaffrey.

Pat had worked at W.W. Cross Co. 'the Tack Shop' for more than 20 years until they closed, then retired from New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough after working there for more than 10 years. Pat was always concerned with family and was always busy trying to support his own. He frequently had more than one job and enjoyed helping others. He helped Dick's Wayside Furniture in Winchendon, installing carpet and moving furniture. Later Pat enjoyed helping his friends in carpentry and other small jobs around town. After retirement seemed too quiet, Pat became a school crossing guard for the Jaffrey Police Department, a position he enjoyed for many years.

In his spare time, Pat volunteered with the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance service and was an Assistant Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 33 in Jaffrey. Pat enjoyed socializing and was will always be remembered affectionately as being a big teaser. He lived for Tuesday night cribbage when the cribbage club was active in Jaffrey, and more recently enjoyed the camaraderie when eating at Beepa and Lulu‘s. Pat adored his grandchildren and whenever they had a need their 'Papa' took care of them.

On October 26, 1968, Pat married Susan E. Fish in a Mass celebrated at Saint Patrick Church, and they soon began their family in Jaffrey.

In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his beloved wife, who he married on October 26, 1968, Susan (Fish) Greenough, on March 10, 2020. Their son, Scott, their daughter, Melissa, and his siblings, Elwin, Mary, and Robert also died earlier.

Pat is survived by his son, Michael Greenough and his former wife, Jennifer, his grandson, Patrick, and granddaughter, Raine, all of Jaffrey, his sister, Linda Tavares of Winchendon, MA, and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and close friends.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 11:00 am in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place later in the Spring at Saint Patrick Cemetery.

EDWARD C. GODSOE
November 23, 2023 (Age 62)

Edward Clarence Godsoe, 62, of Pepperell, MA, passed away unexpectedly Thursday November 23, 2023 at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital in Haverhill, MA. Born in Waltham, MA, he was the son of the late Donald E. and Edith M. (Miller) Godsoe. He graduated from N. Middlesex Regional High school with the class of 1980. Ed proudly served in the United States Army.

After his discharge from the army Ed spent the remainder of his working years as a tractor trailer truck Driver.

He was a past member of the Townsend Rod and Gun Club who enjoyed hunting fishing and archery. Ed was a skilled carpenter who loved to build, draw and carve intricate designs out of wood.

Ed is survived by his son Shane Godsoe and his wife Julie of Fitzwilliam, NH. His daughter Natasha Godsoe and her boyfriend Scott Lyons of Winchendon, MA. Two brothers Harold of Winchendon, Ma and Nathan Godsoe of Framingham, Ma. Five sisters Theresa Wilson of CA, Debby Brookfield of S. Burlington, VT, Sally Pearson of Derry, NH and Lorie Godsoe of Derry, NH; a stepdaughter Ashley Wales of Winchendon, Ma.

He was the brother of the late Donald who died on October 30, 2023 and Cynthia Hoover.

LEROY M. CAMPBELL
December 18, 1924 ~ November 26, 2023 (Age 98)

Leroy Malcolm Campbell, 98, died peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He lived his life to the fullest, with a spirited commitment to his country and a devoted love for his family.

Leroy was born on December 18, 1924 in Fitzwilliam, NH, the son of Artiemus and Agnes (Bailey) Campbell. The family soon moved to Winchendon, where he would make his home until moving to Gardner in 2014.

Heeding the call to serve his country in World War II, Leroy enlisted in the United States Navy at 17. He joined the war effort aboard the USS Kilauea AE-4 (later renamed the USS Mount Baker AE-4), replenishing man-of-war ships with ammunition during two tours of Europe. After victory in Europe, he sailed to the South Pacific via the Panama Canal, where he would again rearm ships for battle in the critical final months of the Pacific campaign.

After being honorably discharged, Leroy returned to Winchendon, where he met his beloved wife, Mary Chard. They were married on her birthday, January 6, 1951, and shared their life and love for 43 years until her death in 1994.

Leroy's dedication to his country led him to reenlist in May 1953, and he would continue to serve for another 20 years. He served on the USS LST-1162 (later renamed the USS Wahkiakum County LST-1162), the USS Chevalier DD-805, saw on-shore at the U.S. Naval Submarine Base, Groton, CT, and most memorably aboard the USS Forrestal CVA-59. He concluded his service at the U.S. Naval Station in Washington, D.C., as the dispatcher to the Chief of Naval Personnel with the rank of Chief Boatswain's Mate. After a distinguished naval career, he retired on December 1, 1973.

His valor and committed service earned him numerous medals, including the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the American Area Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and five Good Conduct Medals honoring each of his five reenlistments. He was also a Shellback, having sailed across the equator twice.

After retiring from the Navy, Leroy returned home to Winchendon and his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they built a loving home and nurtured two daughters, Lois and Lori. He joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1969, retiring in 1989.

After Mary's death in 1994, Leroy was blessed to find love again and married Janet LaPointe on July 28, 2000, gaining an extended family he deeply cherished. Leroy and Janet enjoyed 23 faithful years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and watching sports together.

Leroy was an avid golfer and played prestigious courses across the United States. He took great pride in sharing his love of golf with his grandchildren. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Leroy was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and a member of Eugene M. Connor Post 193, American Legion, and VFW Post 2158. He was a devoted family man who treasured every moment with his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Chard) Campbell, sister Marie Hardy-Hoffman, half-brother Gordon Armstrong, stepson Scott A. LaPointe, and step-granddaughters Stacey LaPointe and Jennifer LaPointe.

Leroy leaves his wife, Janet, of Gardner; two daughters, Lois Guy of Athol and Lori Kuzina and her husband Christopher of Winchendon; former son-in-law Anthony LaPointe of Winchendon; grandchildren Corey LaPointe of Los Angeles, CA, Ashley LaPointe of Winchendon, Eric LaPointe of Chelsea, Ross LaPointe and his wife Hannah of Leominster; great-grandchildren Tyler Andrade, Owen LaPointe, Collin Andrade, and Theodore LaPointe; niece Cathy Tenney and her husband Bob of Long Beach, WA, niece Maureen Turgeon and her husband Daniel of Spotsylvania, VA, nephew Richard Chard and his wife Gabby of San Luis Obispo, CA, and nephew Daniel Brow and his wife Laura of Roxbury, NH.

From his marriage to Janet, he leaves behind two stepsons, Linwood LaPointe, Jr. and his partner Rosa Braga of Winchendon and Robert LaPointe of Phillipston; stepdaughter Kim LaPointe, daughter-in-law Deanna LaPointe; step-grandsons Nicholas LaPointe, Jeremy LaPointe and his wife Shauna, Keith LaPointe and his wife Caitlin; and step-great-grandchildren Alexander LaPointe, Emilia LaPointe, Adelyn LaPointe, Norah LaPointe, Kaden LaPointe, Harmony LaPointe, Addison LaPointe, Jack LaPointe and Ryleigh Lafrennie.

He lived every day serving his country, community, and family with joy and purpose.

Calling hours will be held at the Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home in Winchendon on Monday, December 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5 at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon at 10:00 a.m. where he will be interred with full military honors.

SUSAN R. DAVIES
February 26, 1966 ~ November 24, 2023 (Age 57)

Winchendon - Susan Ruth Davies, born on February 26, 1966, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, passed away on November 24, 2023. She and her family lived in Willington CT for over 20 years before moving to Winchendon, Massachusetts to their family home on Lake Monomonac. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many.

Susan, more than anything, was a compassionate, dedicated, and loving mother to her three daughters. She found her greatest joy in being with them, and she instilled in them her values of love and kindness. Susan was also a courageous woman, bravely facing life's challenges with grace and resilience. She was a long-time tax preparer where her dedication and work ethic were highly admired by her clients.

Susan was deeply rooted in her faith, often expressing it through Bible study, devotional time, and Christian music. The Lord's Prayer held a special significance for her, reminding her of the comforting presence of God in her life. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark movies, spending time on Lake Monomonac, and exploring the beauty of New England with her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband, John Davies, whom she married on October 14, 1989, and their wonderful daughters, Nicole, Lauren, and Mikaela. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Renice Olson.

FREDERICK A. CLOUTIER
March 2, 1945 ~ November 29, 2023 (Age 78)

Frederick A. Cloutier, born in Gardner, Massachusetts on March 2, 1945, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on November 29, 2023. Frederick, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, was a man of strong principles who dedicated his life to the service of his community. He was a resident of Winchendon, Massachusetts, and retired from the town's Law Enforcement, where he held numerous positions including Police Chief, DARE Officer, Safety Officer, Civil Defence Director, and Town Constable.

Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy D. (Emond) Cloutier, their children Kimberly D. (Bruce) Coffin and Richard J. (Wanda) Cloutier; his cherished grandchildren Lazlo W. Cloutier and Avery G. Coffin (Sunshine); his sister Dorothy A. Boutelle, and many many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph E. Sr. and Lillian (Tatro) Cloutier, and siblings Virginia I. Hardy, Angelina V. Galup, Lillian E. Bateman, Mari-Jane Cloutier, and Joseph E. Jr.

Frederick retired in 2005 and spent his golden years as a true putterer, enjoying woodworking and working in his yard on his John Deere Tractor. These moments, shared with his family, particularly his grandchildren, were some of his most cherished. He had a special love for Walt Disney World, a magical place that brought him endless joy when visited with his grandchildren. Frederick was also a member of the American Legion and the DAV. His dedication, hard work, and the immense love he held for his family will forever be remembered.
