John L. Breyer

JOHN L. BREYER
September 16, 1942 ~ December 13, 2023 (Age 87)

Beloved husband and father, John L. Breyer, passed away on December 13, 2023 of complications from Covid-19. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marianna Haven Breyer, Sons, John C. Breyer and Richard Breyer, Daughter-in-Law, Laurie Barbour Breyer and Evan Michael Breyer, age 5, his much loved Grandson. He is also survived by his sister Candace Laubach, his brother-in-law David Laubach and many nieces and nephews.

His early years were spent in Berlin, NJ with his sister Candace, his mother Priscilla Entrikin Breyer, His Grandmother Nora Shivers, and his Auntie Mable Warwick. John was active in his scout troop, the Berlin Methodist Church and roaming around his uncle's farm in Cherry Hill which is now a housing development. One of his favorite stories was buying an apple pie in Nova Scotia and it turned out to be an applesauce pie and they only had forks. He and his family took many fun trips together.

John went to Haddon Heights High School and graduated in 1960, where he was in National Honor Society and was a thespian who played Hercule Poirot in the school production of Mousetrap. He was also in the AFS, American Field Service, and spent the summer in Berlin, Germany with a German Family as an exchange student. And yes, the wall was still there!

After High School, John spent 18 months in Thule, Greenland with RCA. He made many good friends there that remain to this day. At about this time a friend talked him into trying out for the Haddonfield Choral Society where he became a member. His future wife Marianna was also in the Choral Society; he was a baritone and she a soprano, and a romance commenced. There were many good years and some very tragic years but together they weathered them through. In September 2024, John and Marianna Breyer would have been married 57 years.

John worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for over 20 years, and his last place of employment was Torch Technologies on Hanscom Air Force Base as a Master Scheduler. John had many amusing stories from his time at Digital, where early on he was one of a select few support technicians at the home office who would be sent all over the country to repair the most odd and advanced problems when the local support technicians couldn't help.

John was a great lover of music, especially classical music and he played the tuba from high school up until 2020. He played the tuba while serving in the Army National Guard Band as a young man, and more recently played in the Nashoba Valley Concert Band for many years up until the 2020 pandemic. He played in many other small local groups over the years as well including some marches.

John Breyer was well known to be a kind, friendly and humble man who was both liked and loved by all who knew him. He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
