Theatre at the Mount Presents "The Music Man"

Theatre at the Mount continues the 2023/2024 season when the classic musical, The Music Man opens on February 23 for five performances. Often described as a "perfect musical," The Music Man has endured for generations as one of the most popular and unique pieces of theatre in American history. Its rich and snappy score, full of popular hits, is at once incredibly wholesome, side splittingly hilarious, and outrageously clever. Overflowing with beautiful melodies and crackerjack lyrics, it will leave even the most "Iowa stubborn" of theatregoers positively walking on clouds!

The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill (played by Ryan Malyar), as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize - this, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian (played by Alyson Foisy).

Other key players include Sam Gagnon as Marcellus Washburn, Mark Peterson as Mayor Shinn, Trish Aponte as Mrs. Shinn, Kathy Taylor as Mrs. Paroo, Andy Smith as Winthrop, Amelia Cormier as Amaryllis and Taylor Lawton, Craig Cormier, Michael Celularo and Paul Caouette as the members of the school board/barbershop quartet.

By turns wicked, funny, warm, romantic, and touching, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. Meredith Willson’s six-time Tony Award-winning musical comedy has been entertaining audiences since 1957 and is a family-friendly story to be shared with old and young alike.

Performances of The Music Man are February 23, 24, March 1, 2 at 7:30 p.m. and March 3 at 2:00 p.m.. Tickets are available online at https://mwcc.universitytickets.com/ or by calling the Box Office at 978-630-9388.

Theatre on the Mount is located at Mount Wachusett Community College, 444 Green Street, Gardner, MA. For tickets and show information contact box-office@mwcc.mass.edu. For other information, contact g_steele@mwcc.mass.edu

Winchendon Parks & Recreation Hosting "80's Mall Murder Mystery Dinner"

It's 1985, and real estate developer and "entrepreneur" Whit Wiley has just cut the ribbon opening the newest marvel in his shopping mall empire: the Wiley Waterside Galleria Mall in Malibu. Whit was to top the Forbes list of most rich and powerful men of 1985 - until he washed up in the mall fountain, strangled by his skinny tie.

Who could be responsible for the murder of this influential businessman? Was it his first wife Willhemina Wiley, seeking revenge for Whit Wiley's many extramarital affairs? Was it local super shopper Connie Sumer, angry over the Galleria’s inflated scrunchie prices? Or was it fashion designer Cal Von Cline, who objected to Wiley's appallingly gaudy bad taste?

Time to whip out that credit card and tease that hair as big as it can go - we’re shopping for a murderer in 80's Mall Murder Madness!

Tickets are limited to this event of the month. Please only by a participant ticket if you want to hold a role in the evening's activities. Tickets include admission and a buffet dinner by the Twisted Pickle. Drinks are available at the cash bar. See you all at the mall.

Saturday, January 27, 6:00 p.m., at 5 Summer Dr., Winchendon. Buy tickets at https://eventeny.com/events/80smurdermysterydinner-8924/
