Winchendon PD Offering R.A.D. Class for Women

The Winchendon Police Department will be offering a R.A.D (rape aggression defense) class starting in March 2025. Free to all women.

No prior experience is needed as we will teach basic skills that can be applied by everyone.

Class size is limited to 20 so sign up early with a dispatcher at the Winchendon Police Department. Dates: March 25, 27, April 1 and 3.

Attendance to all four classes is required for successful completion. Age requirement is 14 years old accompanied by an adult/guardian with a signed permission slip.

Time: 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.

Location: The first class will be held at the Winchendon Police Department in the training room. The remaining classes will be held at the Memorial School in the gym.

Take the TOY TOWN TROLLEY On Saturdays Beginning January 11! FREE!

Beginning on Saturday, January 11, the Toy Town Trolley will be making three circuits around Winchendon and up to the Rindge shopping areas every Saturday. Rides are FREE to all residents! This service is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and sponsored by the Town of Winchendon, the Winchendon CAC, the Winchendon Council on Aging and the Winchendon CCAP Task Force.

NOTE: ORIGINAL SCHEDULE HAS CHANGED. Each circuit will start at Hyde Park and stop at the end of Pearl Drive, the Town Hall bus shelter, Dollar Tree Plaza, the YMCA/GFA bus shelter, CVS, the fire station bus shelter, Ipswich Drive, the end of Ready Drive, the end of Goodrich Drive and the Winchendon Community Park. From there the trolley will head up 202 (so you don't have to!) and stop to let off shoppers at Tractor Supply, Market Basket/Marshalls, Walmart and Hannaford. It then returns to Not Just Produced and Sippin' Serendipity and immediately starts its next circuit with Hyde Park. Shoppers who were let off on the first through fourth circuits can reboard the trolley for home when it returns.

The first circuit starts at Hyde Park at 9:15 a.m. and the last circuit leaves Hannaford at 2:51 p.m.

The Winchendon Lions meet at the Winchendon American Legion Post 193, 295 School St., downstairs hall, 7:00 p.m.

Meetings are on the third Tuesday of each month, September through June. Dues are used for all Administrative cost, which is why we can say "All money received through fundraisers go back to the community, eye research, or other natural disasters around the world!"

Winchendon Garden Club Scholarship Applications Open

The members of the Winchendon Garden Club have appropriated $2,000 which can be awarded for scholarships in 2025. These will be awarded to residents of Winchendon who are engaged in agricultural or environmental studies (see application for details). Applications must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2025.

Nomination papers for the Annual Town Election are now available at the Town Clerk's office in Town Hall (109 Front St). Nomination papers must be obtained and turned in on or before Monday, March 17, 2025 by 5:00 p.m. Available Terms are:

ONE - 1-year unexpired term for School Committee

The Finance Committee has a vacancy. TREASURER/COLLECTOR

The Town of Winchendon with a population of 10,400 and a budget of $34.5 million is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Treasurer/Collector. The Treasurer/Collector is appointed by the Town Manager and is responsible for all administrative and management work involving the receipt, expenditure, and custody of municipal funds, the investment and borrowing of money, the custody of tax title properties, and the collection of all money due to the Town. Position involves collection, treasury, debt management, benefit administration, bookkeeping, human resource duties and filing mandated reports with various agencies. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a tactful and effective manner; ability to deal with unpleasant or tense situations involving staff and/or the public, ability to maintain detailed and extensive records and to track deadlines, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions.

Bachelor's degree in business or finance is preferred; at least four (4) years of experience in a senior financial management capacity, preferably in a municipal Treasurer/Collector's office. Certification by the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association is preferred. Must be bondable. Experience using MUNIS/QDS financial software is also strongly preferred.

Starting pay for this 40 hour/week position ranges from $80,000 to $95,000 depending on qualifications. Proposed FY 2025 CDBG Application

The Winchendon Planning Board will conduct a Public Hearing on March 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM in Winchendon Town Hall, 109 Front Street, Winchendon, MA regarding a proposed FY2025 application by the Town of Winchendon to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities for up to $850,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds. The projects under consideration include:
• Beech Street Infrastructure Improvements Phase II
• Fuel Assistance Public Service
• Brown St, Hill St, River St area Infrastructure Improvements
• Additional projects may be discussed and may be included in the grant application.
If awarded, the Town of Winchendon will be responsible for administration of the grant program, with assistance from the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission.
All persons with questions or comments regarding the grant application will have an opportunity to be heard.
