2026 Dog Licenses Available Now

2026 Dog licenses are now available at the Town Clerk's office in person, or mail check with rabies certificate to Town Clerk, 109 Front St, Dept. 3, Winchendon, MA 01475. You can also put your application in the drop box outside of Town Hall or order online on the Town Clerk's page of the town website. Cost for a Spayed/Neutered dog is $10, Non-Spayed/Non-Neutered dog is $20. Please provide valid rabies certificate.

Applications Open for FY26 Senior Tax Work-Off Program

Once again this year, we are pleased to announce the Senior Work-Off program was approved at our Annual Town Meeting. This Senior Work-Off Abatement Program is allowing the Town of Winchendon the opportunity to utilize the knowledge and skills of its senior residents in exchange for credit toward the resident's property tax bill. The purpose of this program is:

To employ qualified senior citizens who will apply their earnings toward payment of a portion of their property taxes;
To increase senior citizen involvement in local government; and
To enhance municipal service by using the skills of resident senior citizens.

Qualified and income-eligible residents will accrue the Commonwealth's minimum wage per hour ($15.00 hr) toward a maximum credit of $1,100.00 per household during the fiscal year.

The criteria for this program is:

You must be 60 years old or older
Homeowner in Winchendon and occupy property
Annual income below $40,150 if single; or below $45,900 if married.

Applications for the program are now available in the Town Manager's office and on the town website at https://www.townofwinchendon.com/documentcenter/view/226, and will be accepted until the ten (10) slots are filled. There are different types of positions that are available depending on preference and qualifications of the resident and the needs of each department.

Types of past and current positions have been: Custodial services, clerical help for both School & Town, Library Aides, Senior Center Aides, Cable Station Operator, Bike Path Clean up, Painting, Light Outdoor Work and Classroom Volunteers.

Winchendon Looking for Candidates for the Board of Registrars

The Town of Winchendon is looking for a Registrar. The duties include certifying nomination papers, absentee ballot applications, and petitions. Occasionally a Registrar assists with voter registration. As a member of the Board of Registrars, you're not allowed to serve on any boards or committees or be a poll worker. If there is ever a recount, the Registrars oversee it. This is a stipend position which currently pays $240.00. In-person Kindergarten Registration on Saturday, March 7

Winchendon Public Schools will hold in-person Kindergarten Registration at Memorial Elementary School, 32 Elmwood Rd., Winchendon on Saturday, March 7 from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 Noon. Parents and guardians need to bring an original birth certificate, proof of residency and most recent immunizations and physical papers.

If your child was born between September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021 they are eligible to begin kindergarten in the fall. Kindergarten screening will take place, by appointment, in May.

Open Burning Season January 15 to May 1

The Open Burning Season runs from January 15 through May 1. Residents must get a seasonal permit for the current year from the Fire Department before they burn. A permit is $10.00. Residents must also call the Fire Department at 978-297-6346 after 9:00 a.m. each day that they plan a burn, and get permission for that day. Burning may not be allowed on days with high-risk fire conditions.

Fires should consist of only brush and forest debris. Burning of grass, hay, leaves, stumps, tires, rubbish, building material or construction debris is prohibited. Be sure to check the weather and wind conditions. NEVER LEAVE A FIRE UNATTENDED.

Toy Town Trolley Now Running Later on Saturdays!

We've expanded service hours to help more Winchendon residents--especially those in need of transportation to warming centers, shelters, and essential services.

New Saturday Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Book ahead! Saturday rides must be scheduled by 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

    The Board of Health is seeking qualified members to fill recent vacancies.

    Duties & Responsibilities
    Winchendon has a five member Board of Health who work along with a Health Agent and Health Inspector. According to various statutes in the Massachusetts General Laws, the Board of Health is responsible for inspecting, licensing and enforcing regulations for recreational camps, food establishments, indoor ice rinks, public swimming pools, tanning facilities, body art establishments, and public lodging facilities. The Board is also responsible for enforcement of state regulations regarding housing as well as the disposal of solid waste and subsurface sanitary sewage disposal (Title V).

    RAYMOND F. BOTTI
    August 22, 1934 ~ February 25, 2026 (Age 91)

    Raymond F. Botti, 91, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 25, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

    Born on August 22, 1934, in Athol, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Frank Paul Botti and Dorothea Maude (Bell) Botti.

    Ray served his nation in the United States Navy and in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began a long and devoted career at the General Electric Company in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, where he worked for more than 25 years before retiring in 1997.

    In his spare time, he enjoyed painting, making stained glass, fishing, and playing Cribbage.

    Raymond is survived by his children: Anthony R. Botti and his wife Theresa of Summerville, South Carolina; Brenda M. Botti of Winchendon, Massachusetts; Lisa A. Drouin and her husband Michael of Chesapeake, Virginia; and Christopher B. Botti and his wife Simone of Daytona Beach, Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Danielle Richard, Amy Moury, Maria McCaffrey, Matthew Botti, Donald Cloutier III, Samantha Drouin, and Abigail Drouin; and eight great-grandchildren: Rebeckah, Tanner, Elise, Lindsey, Owen, John, William, and Olivia. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise D. (Bosworth) Botti; his twin sons, Wayne F. Botti and Warren L. Botti; and his sister, Janice Carolyn (Mailloux) Paquin.

    March 8, 1973 ~ February 24, 2026 (Age 52)

    John Joseph Lupo, 52, of Winchendon, Massachusetts, passed away on February 24, 2026, at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness.

    Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, on March 8, 1973, he was the son of John E. Lupo and Kathleen Dwyer.

    John was a self-made entrepreneur who spent his time traveling throughout New England and the East Coast, making countless friends along the way. He loved Jelly Roll, the Dropkick Murphys, the Boston Bruins, and spending as much time as he could on his Harley-Davidson. He had a unique sense of humor that could always be counted on to put a smile on someone's face. He was fiercely devoted to his friends and family and loved them with all his heart.

    Besides his beloved daughter, Rhiannon Lupo, he is survived by his sons, Maximus Lupo and Dominick Lupo; his grandchildren, Zaydian Mejia, Zilayais Spaulding, Marlo Spaulding, and Oliver James Lupo; his sisters, Kerianne Dwyer, Kathleen M. Dwyer, and Rochelle Hennessey; numerous aunts and uncles; his beloved niece, Teagan Stewart; and his best friends, Shayne Benning, Joshua Hickman, and Emma Simmoneau, who were family in every sense of the word.

    He was predeceased by his stepfather, Neal Dwyer; his Uncle Daniel Young; and his aunts, Judy Avron, and Mary Beth Lupo.

    A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring; details will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.

    WINCHENDON - Elaine M. (Brow) Larochelle, 93 of Winchendon, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

    She was born in Winchendon on March 18, 1932, the daughter of Leonard and Pauline (Gendron) Brow.

    Her husband of 56 years, Joseph Larochelle Jr., passed away on March 19, 2013.

    She leaves three children, Glenn Larochelle and his wife Sharon; Ross Larochelle and his wife Vivian; daughter, Valerie Larochelle, six grandchildren, a niece, two nephews, one brother-in-law, David Larochelle and his wife Joanne; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Myrick.

    She graduated from Murdock High School in 1950 with high honors. She was a former Notary Public, Accountant, and an Executive Secretary.

    She enjoyed dancing, skating, swimming, skiing, and spending summers at their place in Lake Winnipesaukee. She was an avid reader who enjoyed life.

    Clifton C. Valarose

    CLIFTON C. VALAROSE
    November 20, 1952 ~ February 18, 2026 (Age 73)

    Winchendon - Clifton C. Valarose, 73, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 after a period of declining health.

    He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Christina A. (Lozier) Valarose; a son, Clifton "Skip" Valarose Jr. of CT; 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Sydney and Paul; a sister, Sandy Valarose, and her husband Ed Lapierre of Rhode Island, as well as several nieces, nephews and in-laws.

    Born in Whitinsville on November 20, 1952, he was the son of Charles and Eva (Morrissette) Valarose. He was raised in Uxbridge and was educated in the Uxbridge public school system.

    Cliff began his career as a union carpenter, working locally for many years before transitioning to a role as a Health and Safety Instructor with the International Training Center for Carpenters headquartered in Las Vegas. He took great pride in his work, which allowed him to travel extensively across the country, sharing his knowledge and passion with others. Cliff dedicated more than 20 years to this position, during which time he resided in Uxbridge, Bellingham, Las Vegas, and then PA.

    In his early years, Cliff enjoyed growing up at the ocean with his family. Also an avid outdoorsman, Cliff found joy in gardening and planting. He created the Blackstone Valley River Water Organization, and the first-and last-annual "Can You Canoe" canoe race on the Blackstone River. He was a member of the Solomon's Temple Lodge of Masons in Uxbridge where Cliff proudly maintained his membership since 1982.

    For the past six years, Cliff made his home in Winchendon.
