    Eva M. Otten

    EVE M. (NEWBURY) OTTEN
    July 29, 1943 ~ May 22, 2026 (Age 82)

Eva Mae (Newbury) Otten passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026. She loved to travel but for six months she visited six different hospitals for at least eight stays. This was not how she wanted to travel.

Eva was born in the hospital in Gardner in 1943 and grew up in Athol. Her parents, Alice and Robert Newbury were fully involved in her activities. A lot of the activities was playing music on her clarinet. She talked about being in numerous bands and at one point was either playing concerts or practicing with her band every night of the week. She started a music studio in the 60s teaching students music after school. She also started the Petersham youth band giving the students a head start before heading to Mahar.

When her brother became old enough to join scouting the whole family became involved. While working as a volunteer she earned scoutings highest award, the Silver Beaver. This was lucky for her future husband, Peter, whom she met in scouting. She was the trainer for Cub Scouts, he was the greenhorn Scout Executive. But she saw something in him and they married in 1987.

Eva was a music teacher at the Mohawk District schools, first at both BSE and Colrain Central in the early 70s where she was responsible for over 500 students who wanted to learn music. Later she taught just at BSE. She not only taught classroom music but also instrumental and every year put on a show (musical or variety). She taught for 34 years and as you walked downtown with her she would point out all the people who had been her students. There were many of them. She lived in Shelburne and Buckland for over 50 years loving the village of Shelburne Falls before moving back to Athol.

Beyond school Eva served as President of the Mohawk District Education Association, the Franklin County Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts, was one of the founders and conducted the Franklin County Elementary Music Festival, was the conductor of many middle school musicals at Mohawk, conductor of the Shelburne Falls Military Band and simply seldom said no if asked to help out.

After Peter and Eva married they would spend many summers on the road during school vacations. First in a camper and later using AirBnB's. During their almost 39 years of marriage they succeeded in visiting every state in the USA, as well as stops in Canada and many of the European countries.

After retirement they both continued to travel all over the country and Europe visiting family and seeing new sights. She always enjoyed telling all of the stories about her travel.

She loved her family. She always looked forward to visiting her brother Robert and wife Alice in Rochester as well as the in-laws in multiple states. There were 17 nieces and nephews and now some 20 great nieces and nephews around the country and beyond. For years she and her husband ran what they called "rent a kid" where any of the nieces or nephews could come and visit for a week or so before going home again. She loved each visit as if the kids were her own.

Please in lieu of flowers consider a donation to the Senior Center in Shelburne (SCF, P.O. box 464, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370) or to a special music program of your choice.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 1:00PM at Mack Family Funeral Homes, Athol-Orange Chapel, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange, MA.

A private ceremony for the immediate family and burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

    Anthony Edward Simeone

    ANTHONY EDWARD SIMEONE
    January 13, 2006 ~ May 21, 2026 (Age 20)

It is with unimaginable heartbreak that I share the loss of our son, Anthony, who passed away tragically on May 21st. To know Anthony was to love him. He had a way of making people feel welcome, included, and understood, and he carried a light that drew people together everywhere he went.

Anthony grew up in Baldwinville and earned his GED through the My Turn program in Leominster. He was most recently employed at PLP Composites in Fitzwilliam, NH, where he worked processing molded resin products. He took pride in working hard and being part of a team he cared deeply about.

Music was one of Anthony's greatest gifts and passions. He could pick up almost any instrument and teach himself to play by ear--acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboard--and he loved creating his own music and riffs. He loved gaming, disc golf, airsoft in the woods, camping, fishing, and anything that let him be outdoors with the people he loved. One of his favorite places to spend time with friends was Doane's Falls.

Anthony loved adventure and experiencing new places. Over the years he traveled to England, Grand Cayman, Haiti, Jamaica, Maine, and most recently took a memorable road trip to Georgia to visit family friends he adored. He especially loved trips to Gettysburg, Hershey Park, and Disney World with his Simeone family.

More than anything, Anthony loved his people. He had a rare ability to make others laugh, feel comfortable, and feel like they belonged. He leaves behind so many beautiful memories with friends, family, and coworkers whose lives are forever changed because of him. He especially cherished his Wal-Mart Cap2 crew and the many amazing young men and women he was proud to call friends.

Anthony leaves behind his loving mother, Erica (Savaria) Tucker, and stepfather, Wes Tucker, of Baldwinville, MA; his sister, Chloe Hooks, and brother-in-law, Ryan Hooks, of Fitzwilliam, NH; his father, Keith Simeone, and stepmother, Elizabeth "Liz" Simeone, of Lunenburg, MA; his stepbrother Ethan Gengler and stepsister Paige Gengler of Lunenburg, MA; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Jeanne Savaria of Alva, FL; and his paternal grandfather, Eugene "Gino" Simeone of Orange, MA. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Linda Simeone.

He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles: Laura & Tom Ercoli of Prospect, CT; Joana & Tim Harrigan of Derry, NH; and Carrie & Anthony Provencal of Westminster, MA; his beloved "Auntie" Tracey Raymond and "Ogre" Dick Raymond of Winchendon, MA; as well as his cousins Caroline Osborn, Zachary Byam, Zoe Harrigan, Zachary Harrigan, Jake and wife Kaitlyn Provencal, and Ryan and wife, Acacia Provencal.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Anthony's memory to a nonprofit mental health organization such as Send Silence Packing. Learn more https://activeminds.org/our-story/

There will be no formal funeral or burial. Instead, we will gather to celebrate Anthony's life on Wednesday, June 3rd at 5:00 PM at the American Legion Post 193 upstairs hall in Winchendon, MA.

Please come as Anthony would have wanted--comfortable and casual: band t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, whatever feels like you. We want the evening to feel like sitting around a campfire together, sharing stories, laughter, memories, and love for a young man who meant so much to so many.

Her love for life was evident in her hobbies, which included playing cards, golfing, and shopping. Debbie was an avid supporter of her grandchildren's sporting events and was known to many simply as Mimi, Ma, Mum, Mumma, Auntie, and Sissy.

Debbie is survived by her loving husband, Armand LaPrise, and her beloved daughters, Keri LaPrise and Abby Jenkins, her nephew Joshua Page, and his wife, Lindsey. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Sokari and Aylah Jenkins. She is also survived by her siblings, Dawn Martin and her husband Edward, Diane Cullen, Michael Cullen, and his wife Jane.
