Winchendon Agricultural Commission Seeks New Members

The Winchendon Agricultural Commission is seeking enthusiastic people to fill several vacant seats. The Agricultural Commission's purpose is to support and promote agriculture in the town of Winchendon. The Commission deals with town bylaws related to farming and agriculture, concerns that may arise for farmers/homesteaders and/or their neighbors, state and national legislation directly impacting agriculture in Winchendon, and the business of producing and providing healthy food and other natural agricultural products for sale. As part of boosting farming businesses, the Commission supports the Winchendon Farmers Market.

Members don't have to be farmers or have direct experience with farming; a passion for locally produced food, smaller-scale agricultural production, land preservation and knowing where our food comes from are all that you need.

If you'd like to join the Agricultural Commission, send a letter of interest to Deb Dennis in the Town Manager's office, ddennis@winchendon-ma.gov. Agricultural Commission members are appointed by the Town Manager.

Winchendon PD Wants Your Feedback About Drug-Related Crime

Winchendon has felt the impact of the opioid epidemic like all cities and towns in our region and the country abroad. Drug activity creates a wide range of negative effects, ranging from increased criminal activity and violence to a decline in physical safety and economic stability. Drug activity also increases public health risks for those suffering from substance abuse disorder and puts strain on families living with loved ones struggling with addiction.

We believe a multi-faceted approach is necessary to mitigate the negative effects of drug activity in a town. Compassionate outreach programs, such as our department's Post Overdose Support Team (POST) are necessary to help individuals and families. At the same time, aggressive investigation and prosecution of drug dealers is an essential component to improving quality of life in a community.

For the sake of the latter initiative, the police department applied for and was awarded a federal grant which has enabled the creation of our own drug task force. The task force was assembled in December and is comprised of four existing Winchendon officers. The task force is assigned to conduct targeted drug enforcement patrols in Winchendon. The team has been deployed several times a month (4-8hr. intervals) over the last six months. Grant funds will support this project for one year.

The desired outcome of this project is to reduce the availability of illicit narcotics in the Town of Winchendon. In addition, reduce the number of areas/homes where illicit drug trafficking activity is suspected.

We ask that you go to the link below and complete the following survey which will aid in measuring the success of our efforts thus far. In addition, we would like to know your thoughts on how the police department should approach and prioritize future efforts, for the sake of improving quality of life in our community.

Fill out the survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/39YCY3D

Jeff graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1984, then went on to study Website Design at Clark University. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing guitar and participated in many school sports. He loved volunteering at the local church, delivering food to the needy. His volunteering efforts still carried on until his very last days, any chance he could for friends, family, and neighbors.

He went on to work at Simonds Industries, where he was recognized as a top Regional salesperson. He worked for several other companies in the steel industry before moving on to a landscaping business.

He was given an award for his efforts.

Jeff enjoyed spending countless hours on his boat on Lake Monomonac, reflecting and enjoying sunsets. He shared these moments with people, often on social media. Another outdoor favorite of his was riding ATVs with his wife Shannon amongst other friends, even metal detecting in the woods.

Jeff's biggest passion, however, is for his two rescue dogs, Maybelline and Tater. He formed a myriad of memories with the dogs. His second passion was traveling the world with his soulmate, making new memories, experiencing food and culture, and living life to the fullest.

With his advanced heart disease, he inspired thousands of people from all over the world with his social media posts about true love, being grateful, and enjoying every day as if it's our last. His favorite quote was, "We are not here for a long time, but we're here for a good time!".

    Carolyn Caswell

    CAROLYN CASWELL
    June 12, 2026 (Age 84)

Carolyn 'Carol' Ann (Dunchus) Caswell, 84 of Westminster, MA, passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026, after a brief battle with Glioblastoma. Carol is survived by her daughters, Charlene Ann Caswell (Nathaniel Woods) of Lexington, MA, and Cynthia Ruth Caswell Dontje (Terry) of Cranston, RI. Her pride and joy granddaughters, Rebecca and Stella Dontje and Charlotte and Allie Woods; sister Elaine Crump and brother-in-law Stephen Crump, along with many nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her parents, Gediminas and Allie (Walkama) Dunchus, husband Donald, brothers William, Richard, Donald, Robert, and sisters Helen and Marion.

Born and raised in Winchendon, MA, Carol was a 1960 graduate of Murdock High School. Carol raised her daughters in Troy, NH, for several years before moving with her family to Westminster, MA. After working for a few years at Independent Lock, Carol was 'talked into' going to nursing school by a co-worker. Carol graduated from Gardner State Hospital Nursing School in 1966. Over the years of her career as a nurse, Carol worked at state hospitals, nursing homes, and many years doing private duty nursing overnight shifts so she could be home for her daughters while they were in school. She retired from over a forty-year career in nursing at the Fernald School.

Carol was a huge fan of the Boston Red Sox. She never missed watching a game on TV, attending a few games in person, and was elated to witness them win four World Series. Her other favorite hobbies included going to casinos with her daughters, fishing, cooking delicious food, gardening, bingo, family cookouts, cribbage tournaments, Circle of Artists, and doing volunteer work at the Westminster Baptist Church. While having a great time doing all this, Carol had one of the best comedic personalities you could ever meet. To her core, she could take a negative and make it into a positive with her humor. Carol was a lover of animals and owned many over the years. Later in life, she enjoyed visiting with all of her daughters' pets and babysitting them.

When Carol turned 80, her daughters asked her where she wanted to go celebrate her birthday--anywhere in the world. Being a lover of Elvis, she wanted to go to Graceland. And that we did, and it was one of her most favorite trips ever. Besides Graceland, Carol was fortunate to travel to Bermuda, Chatham, Las Vegas, and several countries in Europe on an epic trip with her close friends Donna and Esther in 2007.
