Winchendon Agricultural Commission Seeks New Members

The Winchendon Agricultural Commission is seeking enthusiastic people to fill several vacant seats. The Agricultural Commission's purpose is to support and promote agriculture in the town of Winchendon. The Commission deals with town bylaws related to farming and agriculture, concerns that may arise for farmers/homesteaders and/or their neighbors, state and national legislation directly impacting agriculture in Winchendon, and the business of producing and providing healthy food and other natural agricultural products for sale. As part of boosting farming businesses, the Commission supports the Winchendon Farmers Market.

Members don't have to be farmers or have direct experience with farming; a passion for locally produced food, smaller-scale agricultural production, land preservation and knowing where our food comes from are all that you need.

If you'd like to join the Agricultural Commission, send a letter of interest to Deb Dennis in the Town Manager's office, ddennis@winchendon-ma.gov. Agricultural Commission members are appointed by the Town Manager.

Winchendon PD Wants Your Feedback About Drug-Related Crime

Winchendon has felt the impact of the opioid epidemic like all cities and towns in our region and the country abroad. Drug activity creates a wide range of negative effects, ranging from increased criminal activity and violence to a decline in physical safety and economic stability. Drug activity also increases public health risks for those suffering from substance abuse disorder and puts strain on families living with loved ones struggling with addiction.

We believe a multi-faceted approach is necessary to mitigate the negative effects of drug activity in a town. Compassionate outreach programs, such as our department's Post Overdose Support Team (POST) are necessary to help individuals and families. At the same time, aggressive investigation and prosecution of drug dealers is an essential component to improving quality of life in a community.

For the sake of the latter initiative, the police department applied for and was awarded a federal grant which has enabled the creation of our own drug task force. The task force was assembled in December and is comprised of four existing Winchendon officers. The task force is assigned to conduct targeted drug enforcement patrols in Winchendon. The team has been deployed several times a month (4-8hr. intervals) over the last six months. Grant funds will support this project for one year.

The desired outcome of this project is to reduce the availability of illicit narcotics in the Town of Winchendon. In addition, reduce the number of areas/homes where illicit drug trafficking activity is suspected.

We ask that you go to the link below and complete the following survey which will aid in measuring the success of our efforts thus far. In addition, we would like to know your thoughts on how the police department should approach and prioritize future efforts, for the sake of improving quality of life in our community.

Fill out the survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/39YCY3D

    Stephen K. Lindley

    STEPHEN K. LINDLEY
    December 19, 1946 ~ August 14, 2026 (Age 79)

Stephen Kenneth Lindley was born on a winter's day, December 19, 1946, in Hyannis, Massachusetts. He was raised in Hyannnisport, by his maternal grandparents, Louise and Roland Pihl. Louise was a coloratura soprano with the New England Conservatory; Roland was a math professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a gifted musician and artist. In a home 300 feet from the open ocean, Stephen grew up surrounded by sailboats, dogs, building projects, art and music. He carried these many loves throughout his life, and, along the way, developed passions for flying and cabinetmaking.

Stephen graduated from Barnstable High School in Hyannis in 1965, while also working on Nantucket ferries, commercial fishing boats and tugboats. During the Kennedy White House years, Stephen served as sailing instructor to Pierre Salinger’s children. He then earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and Aerospace Design from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1968. While in college, Stephen attained his fixed-wing pilot’s license and spent most of his weekends at Jumptown Skydiving in Orange. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the US Army and was trained as a helicopter pilot. Following his tour in Vietnam, Stephen received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Metal, the Bronze Star and the Vietnam Campaign Medal, among others. He was the only survivor of two gunship crashes that left him with injuries that eventually led to his status as a disabled combat veteran.

Stephen’s creativity and work ethic helped him transition to a career as a self-employed building contractor, where he led countless innovative projects. His most notable accomplishment was the designing and building of the Gerbode House in Fairfield, Vermont. Photos of this estate can be viewed online. Stephen then took his inventive ideas to New Hampshire. There, he was able to fulfill his dream of breeding and racing Siberian Huskies with the dog sleds he designed and built. No matter where he lived, Stephen’s greatest love was always the Atlantic Ocean.

Stephen returned to Cape Cod in 1980 to continue his building career and rehabilitate fishing boats. In 1997, he moved to Winchendon to be closer to family. Stephen leaves his son, Taylor Lindley of West Yarmouth and his stepson Christopher Mc Cormick of Los Angeles. He also leaves three sisters: Christina Lindley Muse of Winchendon, together with her husband Ron and their children and grandchildren. Stephen also leaves his sisters Wendy Newton of Centerville, Massachusetts and Carol Reed and her two children of Hampden, Massachusetts.

Stephen will be buried with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon. His graveside service will be on Friday, August 21st at 1 PM.

As we bid farewell to Stephen Lindley, we invite you to share your memories and stories on his memorial page. Your words and photos will help preserve the essence of Stephen, and the adventurous, creative, and generous man that he was.

Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central St., Winchendon, is directing arrangements.

    Jessie Nolette

    JESSIE A. NOLETTE SR
    October 6, 1975 ~ August 6, 2026 (Age 50)

Jessie A Nolette Sr, 50, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Leominster UMass Hospital due to complications from a longtime illness. He was surrounded by his beloved family and dearest friends.

He was born on October 6, 1975 in Athol MA, the son of Carol Nolette (Moore) and Bob Nolette. He was predeceased by his mother and father, and his life partner, Michelle O'Neill. He is survived by his children, stepdaughter Amanda Eddy and her fiance Jess of Inverness FL, and his son Jessie A Nolette Jr of Winchendon MA and his forever Sweet Pea, Emily Sophia. Also survived by his beloved siblings, Bobby Nolette (Jody) of Winchendon MA, Dennis (Tammy) Nolette of Royalston MA, Sherry Nolette of Gardner MA, Jerry Nolette of Ashburnham MA, Nicole Michaud of Fitchburg MA, Alisha Beauregard (Osiris) of Gardner MA, Kevin (Lauren) O'Donnell of Weymouth MA, and Casey Nolette of Worcester MA. As well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved very much!

Jessie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends more than anything.

He spent most of his life in Winchendon, Gardner and surrounding towns, working construction with his brothers and lifelong friends. He loved building things and fixing things up to make them better. Any town he'd drive through with his family he would point out the houses that he had built or worked on with pride.

Jessie had a wild sense of humor and even wilder life stories to share with anyone who would listen. He had a great personality and an infectious laugh!

But his big heart and tough lifestyle will be what he's most remembered by!

If you knew Jessie, you knew how much he loved tattoos! Every one he had meant something to him dearly or had a crazy story behind it, from Spider Webs and Peace signs to the beautiful faces and names of his children and beloved Michelle Ann.

If you were from Massachusetts, it is almost guaranteed that you knew our Big Jessie!
