North Central Mass. Veterans Host Suicide Prevention Symposium

Baldwinville Mass. - Suicide prevention experts will offer information and support at the Risk Awareness - Prevention Symposium on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Narragansett Regional High School (464 Baldwinville Rd., Baldwinville, MA). The event is sponsored by American Legion Post 373, Baldwinville, MA and is open to the public. A pancake breakfast will be offered before the event from 7:30 to 9:00 AM at the American Legion Hall ( 3 Central St., Baldwinville, MA). Admission to the breakfast and event are free of charge.

Suicide prevention and mental health professionals will offer information and resources for members of the military community, police, firefighters, EMT's, first responders, and front line emergency workers who are particularly at risk because of the high levels of stress they face. Family members and others who support public safety workers will also find the presentations useful. The following organizations will offer presentations at the event:

According to the Veterans Administration, more than 17 veterans take their lives each day, which is significantly higher than the rate for the general population. The number of suicide deaths in the U.S. is increasing. Event organizer, Jim Brehio describes the reason for the event, "Our goal is to save a life. To achieve this, we have brought together several groups that address the suicide crisis and offer free services to our country's veterans each and every day." Retired Brigadier General Paul "Greg" Smith, former Land Component Commander of the Mass. Army National Guard will serve as moderator of the symposium.

New England's Favorite Heart Tribute Band In Concert At The Park Theatre

"Heartless" performs this Saturday, October 15, in Jaffrey

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (October 11, 2022). The 1970s continue to be celebrated at Jaffrey's Park Theatre. The performing arts center is wrapping up a week of screenings of the new award-winning David Bowie documentary, Moonage Daydream. Next, they pay tribute to one of the most successful bands of the 1970s, Heart, with a live concert by New England's #1 Heart tribute band, Heartless. The show is presented this Saturday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Heartless is a touring act for the upper East Coast and New England, with a goal of playing each song as a true-to-live version of Heart's performances. This band packs concert venues with fans who sing along with their classic Heart songs and a few well-known Led Zeppelin covers commonly covered by Heart throughout their decades of the tour.

Jasmine White, lead vocal, brings all the vocal flavors and personality of Heart's Ann Wilson alive. Jasmine delivers hit songs such as "Alone," "What About Love, "Straight On," "Magic Man," "Barracuda," and "Crazy on You."

Heartless will perform in The Park Theatre's acoustically acclaimed 333-seat Eppes Auditorium. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased online at theparktheatre.org, by calling the box office at (603) 532-8888, or by buying at the door. The theatre's Lounge bar will be open starting at 5:30 p.m. Local favorites Bernie and Louise Watson will perform in The Lounge (free admission).

The Park Theatre performing arts center is located at 19 Main Street in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire. The facility is fully accessible.

This Weekend at Nova Arts

Join us October 14 and 15 for four bands performing all different genres of music. To start off the weekend we have The Gaslight Tinkers along with Jeff and Jessie on Friday, October 14. The Gaslight Tinkers perform a mix of genres that include African, Funk, Reggae, Latin and Caribbean with a twist of fiddle music. After starting in 2012 they have traveled up and down the East and West Coast as well as the Caribbean performing in clubs, dances, and festivals. Jeff and Jessie are a local acoustic duo. With Jeff's expressive instrumentals and Jessie's soulful voice, they create the perfect harmony to listen to. Music starts at 8:00 p.m .with doors opening at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday, October 15, we have The Huntress and Holder of Hands and Dead Gown performing. The Huntress and Holder of Hands started as a way to explore grief and growth. MorganEve Swain started off with home-recording as a way to deal with the grief of losing her husband (and musical partner in Brown Bird) to Leukemia. Wanting to expand and perform live, she expanded the group to five people. The band now includes a cellist, string bass, electric bass, voice, and drummer. The second performance of the night is by Dead Gown, the songwriter project of Genevieve Beaudion. Her performance is a confident declaration of self-acceptance. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with music starting at 8:00 p.m. Nova Arts is located at 48 Emerald St., Keene, NH.

Governor, Attorney General, and State Treasurer Seek Applicants for Cannabis Social Equity Advisory Board

BOSTON -- Today Governor Charlie Baker, Attorney General Maura Healey, and State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg announced that they are seeking applicants for the Cannabis Social Equity Advisory Board.

The Equity Advisory Board will consult with the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development (EOHED) as EOHED administers the Cannabis Social Equity Trust Fund.

A first of its kind, the Trust Fund was established to encourage the full participation in the state’s regulated marijuana industry of entrepreneurs from communities that have been disproportionately harmed by marijuana prohibition and enforcement (ADI Communities). Equity Advisory Board members must be from, or have experience advocating for, ADI Communities.

The law requires the Governor, Treasurer and Attorney General to appoint 5 members to the Cannabis Advisory Board.

  • 1 person appointed by the Governor with a background in the cannabis industry, who shall serve as chair;1 person appointed by the Treasurer with a background in finance or commercial lending;
  • 1 person appointed by the Attorney General with a background in business development or entrepreneurship; and
  • 2 persons appointed by a majority vote of the Governor, Treasurer, and Attorney General, who shall have experience in business development, preferably in the cannabis industry.
All applications must be received no later than by November 1, 2022 by the Human Resources Department of the Office of the State Treasurer via email at HR@tre.state.ma.us or via U.S. Mail to One Ashburton Place, 12th Floor, Boston, MA 02108.

A completed application may be subject to the public records law (G.L. c. 66). To be considered, you must submit a letter of interest and resume. Your letter of interest should include an explanation and/or identification of:
  • The seat you are applying for (e.g., Governor, Treasurer, Attorney General, or joint appointee);
  • Whether you are from or have experience advocating for, an ADI Community and the name of the community(ies); and
  • Whether you have prior/present involvement in the Massachusetts regulated marijuana industry and describe that involvement.
