Robert H. Kendall

ROBERT H. KENDALL
March 2, 2023 (Age 95)

God graciously called Robert (Bob) Howard Kendall, 95, to Heaven, on March 2nd. He was the loving husband of Katherine Kendall who predeceased him in 2015. Bob is survived by his children Sandra Burke and husband Patrick of FL, Linda Hampton of AL, Kim Kendall of AZ, Tammy Fanelli of MA, Wendy Smith and husband Michael of FL, and Robert Kendall II and husband Michael Grant of MA. He also leaves eleven grandchildren with whom he shared a very close relationship, many great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren that he adored.

Bob grew up in Leominster, the son of Harold and Elva Kendall. He was predeceased by his two brothers, George and Ralph and sister Betty. Bob volunteered for the Navy at the young age of 17 and served on three ships from 1945 to 1949. Upon his return from the Navy, he learned the trade of pipe fitting from his father. He went on to work as a foreman for the Pipe Fitter's Union, Local 92. Bob established his home in Fitchburg and hand-built a summer camp in Winchendon on Lake Monomonac. Bob loved to build, he and his son worked side by side on many projects over the years. Bob enjoyed staying active and continued to golf into his early 90s. Throughout his life, he also enjoyed mountain climbing (well into his 80s), water skiing, fishing, family trips to the beach, and summers at the lake. He especially loved playing cards and regularly triumphed in countless games of cribbage during his last months. Bob embodied a true Christian spirit. He loved God, his family, and always endeavored to help others. He was exceptionally generous and regularly donated to various charitable organizations. His quiet acts of kindness and unconditional love for others was a mainstay characteristic throughout his life.

One could not discuss his passing without mentioning the great love he shared with his wife, Kathy. It was a true love. On the first night they met, Bob asked Kathy to marry him. Three months later, they were wed. After raising their family, they retired early and enjoyed the warmth of the Florida sun during the winter months. Now their hands are joined again, and we celebrate his life, a life full of love, generosity, and kindness. Dad, we'll be seeing you in all the old familiar places!

The family would like to thank The Gables of Fitchburg for their love and exceptional care as well as Andy and Sheila, VNA hospice nurses, who went above and beyond in their dedication to Bob during his remaining months. A very special thanks to Debra, his cribbage pal, and to the Rose Monahan Hospice House for making the last part of Bob's journey a peaceful transition.

In lieu of flowers please consider remembering Bob with an act of kindness or a charitable donation.

Wanda Lee Smith

WANDA LEE SMITH
September 20, 1954 ~ February 27, 2023 (Age 68)

GARDNER - Wanda Lee (Bennett) Smith, 68 passed away peacefully early Monday morning February 27, 2023, at Heywood Hospital with close family by her side. She has left behind an apartment full of stuff for her daughter and sons who have no idea what to do with it all. So, if you're looking for a fifty-year-old double sided measuring cup, stacks of perfectly aligned folded bath towels, a year's worth of toilet paper or paper towels, an eerie vintage nun doll, or a coloring book titled "Sh*t for Old People to Color" you should let one of us know.

This is not an ad for a pawn shop, but an obituary for a fabulous friend, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin. She was born on September 20, 1954, in Winchendon, MA, the daughter of Beatrice (LaPlante) and the late Loring Bennett, Sr and attended Winchendon Public Schools until she graduated from Murdock High School in the Class of '72.

She enjoyed activities such as camping, fishing, hiking, canoeing, spending quality time with life-long friends, reading, writing poetry, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, spoiling her grandchildren, indulging others' pets, as well as visiting beaches and oceans.

Wanda was a dedicated caregiver. Helping others was so important to her that it influenced her career path. In various points in her life she enlightened children, cared for and nurtured the elderly, and provided ongoing support to those with mental health diagnoses.

She leaves behind a very eccentric family that she thought the world of, and she especially enjoyed every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jennifer (Charbonneau) Moss and David Greenleaf of Hollis, ME. Granddaughter and her husband Rebecca (Moss) and Dean Smalley of Chula Vista, CA; granddaughter Allison Moss of Hollis, ME; and grandson Jacob Moss of Buxton, ME. Her son and daughter-in-law David and Christy (Fisher) Page of Orange, MA. Granddaughters Katelyn Page of Worcester, MA and Courtney Page, of Orange, MA. Her Son Erik Smith and partner Abby Atsma of Gardner, MA. Grandsons Greyson Smith of Joplin, MI; Patrick Smith of Townsend, MA; and granddaughter Ayla Smith of Gardner, MA. Also extended family including brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and stepchildren. She was loved dearly by many longtime beloved friends.

Wanda developed patience as she aged, but maintained her ability to not hold back her opinion and had a knack for telling it like it is. She imparted her wisdom openly to those close to her with love, understanding, acceptance, and without judgement. Nevertheless, she told you the truth even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. These words of encouragement, wisdom, and comfort kept us in line and taught us the life lessons we will pass down to our children.

Everyone always knew where they stood with her. She liked you or she didn't, it was usually black or white. If you were close to her you were blessed with her acceptance and loyalty, valued beyond measure.

She was predeceased by her father Loring Bennett, Sr; sister Bernadette Bennett; nephew Jamon Bennett; former husband Theodore Smith; and mother-in-law Violet Morris.

All who loved her dearly will never forget her joy, laughter, unique Halloween costumes, outrageous t-shirts, quick-witted sense of humor, compassion for the less fortunate, old-school work ethic, spit-fire spirit, love of children, midnight mass milkshakes, her one-of-a-kind church hat, shopping mall flatulence, spontaneous supermarket slow-dancing, and her undying love for her family.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service per Wanda's request. In remembrance, donations could be made in her honor to local community non-profit organizations that support children, veterans, the elderly, individuals with mental illness or food insecurity.
