Winchendon's Ruth Cheffers Contributes to Print Periodical 'The University Scholar'

IRVING, TX (12/04/2023)-- Ruth Cheffers of Winchendon, MA, is on the masthead of The University Scholar, a periodical of arts and letters published by students of the University of Dallas.

The 23rd volume of The University Scholar was released in late November. Cheffers contributed a poem titled "Grief."

Sponsored by the English Department of the University of Dallas and Phi Beta Kappa, The University Scholar is managed and edited by UD students.

Massachusetts Residents inducted into Honor Society for First-Year Success

MANCHESTER, NH (November 24, 2023) - Saint Anselm College student Rachel Romero of Winchendon, MA, Politics major in the class of 2025, was accepted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a national scholastic honor society for first-year success, for the 2022-2023 academic year.

To be eligible for invitation, students must be enrolled full-time at an institution with an active chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta and have a 3.5 grade point average or higher in their first semester or first year of study.

Alpha Lambda Delta was founded in 1924 by Maria Leonard, the Dean of Women at the University of Illinois, to recognize academic excellence among freshman women. One year prior, Dean Thomas Arkle Clark had founded Phi Eta Sigma, an honor society to recognize academic excellence among freshman men. Both groups became coeducational in 1976 in response to Title IX. Alpha Lambda Delta has grown to 280 chapters and has initiated over one million students.

Registration Open for Mount Wachusett Community College's Lifelong Learning Spring Courses

Gardner MA, December 1, 2023 - Registration is now open for Mount Wachusett Community College's Lifelong Learning spring courses with new offerings such as Cannabis Certificate programs and returning favorites such as Speed Spanish and CPR.

The Mount's Lifelong Learning program courses are open to anyone who is interested in learning a new skill, exploring the community, and meeting new people. These classes also provide students with the opportunity to earn certifications to support their career.

Courses offered this spring through MWCC's Lifelong Learning division include several new topics for those interested in crafts, writing, and technology. The new “Smarter Smartphone Photography” course will help learners take the best possible pictures with their smartphones. The intensive "Write Your First Novel in 90 Days" online course will help students through the planning and writing of their first novel. The popular golf courses are back, with beginner, intermediate, and advanced offered. These courses and other listings for spring can be found at mwcc.edu/LLL.

The course list is constantly growing and changing to accommodate people of all ages. Community education courses are offered virtually as well as in-person to ensure lifelong learning is accessible to everyone. Courses are reasonably priced, and senior citizens are eligible for tuition/fee discounts. These courses are a great way to achieve personal growth, find a new passion, and meet like-minded people.
