Winchendon Agricultural Commission Seeks New Members

The Winchendon Agricultural Commission is seeking enthusiastic people to fill several vacant seats. The Agricultural Commission's purpose is to support and promote agriculture in the town of Winchendon. The Commission deals with town bylaws related to farming and agriculture, concerns that may arise for farmers/homesteaders and/or their neighbors, state and national legislation directly impacting agriculture in Winchendon, and the business of producing and providing healthy food and other natural agricultural products for sale. As part of boosting farming businesses, the Commission supports the Winchendon Farmers Market.

Members don't have to be farmers or have direct experience with farming; a passion for locally produced food, smaller-scale agricultural production, land preservation and knowing where our food comes from are all that you need.

If you'd like to join the Agricultural Commission, send a letter of interest to Deb Dennis in the Town Manager's office, ddennis@winchendon-ma.gov. Agricultural Commission members are appointed by the Town Manager.

Winchendon PD Wants Your Feedback About Drug-Related Crime

Winchendon has felt the impact of the opioid epidemic like all cities and towns in our region and the country abroad. Drug activity creates a wide range of negative effects, ranging from increased criminal activity and violence to a decline in physical safety and economic stability. Drug activity also increases public health risks for those suffering from substance abuse disorder and puts strain on families living with loved ones struggling with addiction.

We believe a multi-faceted approach is necessary to mitigate the negative effects of drug activity in a town. Compassionate outreach programs, such as our department's Post Overdose Support Team (POST) are necessary to help individuals and families. At the same time, aggressive investigation and prosecution of drug dealers is an essential component to improving quality of life in a community.

For the sake of the latter initiative, the police department applied for and was awarded a federal grant which has enabled the creation of our own drug task force. The task force was assembled in December and is comprised of four existing Winchendon officers. The task force is assigned to conduct targeted drug enforcement patrols in Winchendon. The team has been deployed several times a month (4-8hr. intervals) over the last six months. Grant funds will support this project for one year.

The desired outcome of this project is to reduce the availability of illicit narcotics in the Town of Winchendon. In addition, reduce the number of areas/homes where illicit drug trafficking activity is suspected.

We ask that you go to the link below and complete the following survey which will aid in measuring the success of our efforts thus far. In addition, we would like to know your thoughts on how the police department should approach and prioritize future efforts, for the sake of improving quality of life in our community.

    Jessica Coderre

    JESSICA LEE CODERRE
    December 9, 1971 ~ May 4, 2026 (Age 54)

Jessica Lee Coderre (Dellasanta), born on December 9, 1971, embraced eternal rest on May 4, 2026 in Cleveland Clinic Weston FL. after a long illness. The struggle became too hard and the Lord took her home to rest and be welcomed with open arms by those she missed dearly; her son Alex, mom and her grammy.

Jessica was a gifted hairdresser whose artistry brought beauty and confidence to many. Jessica had a heart devoted to caregiving, offering compassion and support to those around her. Her life was a testament to love, dedication, and the joy of connecting with others. Her warmth and vibrant presence illuminated every space she entered, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jessica attended Murdock High School alumni class of 1989. Jessica's dream was to be a hairdresser so at the age of 17 she attended the Henri's Hair of School design and received a Cosmetology Degree. She then worked at a few Salons, attracting a loyal following who soon became the first customers to walk through the doors of her very own salon named The Golden Scissors “A cut above the rest!”in her hometown Winchendon MA. With a little help from family she was able to make her dream come true. At the young age of 21 with her outstanding hairdressing skills she became a successful entrepreneur with a booming business! Unfortunately because of unforeseen hardships and health issues she closed her doors in 1998.

Jessica went on to work a variety of jobs until her mom passed away which brought her to Florida where she presently resided for 9 years. This is where she met her wonderful devoted partner Todd. Jessica's favorite job in Florida was being a caregiver for an elderly woman who lived to be 101 years old. She used to tell Jessica when she walked through the door, "Here she is Ms. America our beauty queen has arrived." For those who knew Jessica all would agree she was a beautiful girl who always greeted you with a gorgeous welcoming smile. Many who would see Jessica around town would mistake her for her mom Kathy who could have been her twin, another beauty. Jessica was a natural beauty queen with an unrivaled flair for fashion and hairstyles. In her spare time she created beautiful paintings and crafts (the Dellasanta in her).

Jessica leaves her devoted partner Todd Alliy, his son Ryan, son Tylor Coderre of Sebastian FL, Grandsons Jackson and Davie Coderre of Houlton ME, parents Linda and Raymond Dellasanta, brother Ryan Dellasanta nieces Crystal and Gabriella of Winchendon MA. Many cousins, aunts and uncles too many to name and her beloved fur family Luna, Stars, Arnold & Madge. She is predeceased by her mother Katherine (Miganowitz) Dellasanta,Turner and son Alexander Coderre of Sebastian FL.

May Jessica find everlasting peace in the Lord's embrace. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who shared in her journey. Celebration of Life Service to be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 126 Central St., Winchendon MA on July 4 at 2:00 p.m.

    Charles Aaron Schrawder

    CHARLES AARON SCHRAWDER
    January 19, 1939 ~ June 24, 2026 (Age 87)

Charles Aaron Schrawder (Chuck), 87, passed away at Heywood Hospital on June 24, 2026. Chuck was born on January 19, 1939, to Norman and Kathryn Schrawder of Watsontown, PA. He learned at a young age the meaning of hard work, growing up on a farm that lacked both running water and electricity. His family owned 14 cows and grew the majority of what they lived on.

Chuck's patriotism started early; at age 16, he enlisted in the National Guard in Danville, PA. Nine months into his enlistment, he received draft orders to join the army. Feeling a larger desire to serve in the Marines, he quickly enlisted in the Marine Corps, where he worked in Squadron Headquarters located in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was only a short period, but the brotherhood he felt with his fellow Marines remained a vital connection throughout his life. It was there that Chuck's first wife became pregnant, and a short time later, Clayton was born at the Tripler Army Hospital on February 6, 1960. In August 1960, marking the end of three years in the Marine Corps, the family moved home to Berwick, PA.

The couple mutually decided to end their marriage before Chuck left Pennsylvania for work in Gardner, Massachusetts, as a truck driver. He soon started working part-time for a friend who introduced him to his girlfriend's sister, Carol Vaine. They hit it off almost immediately, got married on September 1, 1962, after a short courtship, then moved to Winchendon, Massachusetts, before Carol gave birth to their daughter, Marla Jean Schrawder, on November 2, 1964. During this time, Chuck joined the Winchendon Police Department as a Parole Officer. Their young family grew by one three years later when Brent Aaron Schrawder was born on May 3, 1967. After eight years with the Winchendon Police Department, two additional years with the Keene Police Department, and then two years with the Baldwinville Police Department, Chuck retired from the police service after two years serving as both Sargent and acting Police Chief of the Baldwinville Police Department. Their family was completed when Ryan C. Schrawder was born on October 9, 1976. Chuck worked as a cross-country truck driver, a paper maker at Baldwinville Products, and as a customer service person at Pelliteires until his retirement at 62.

Chuck had many passions throughout his life, from single-handedly remodeling his entire house in Baldwinville, MA, to enjoying his spare time hunting, target shooting, archery, throwing darts, shooting pool, and, for a short time, riding motorcycles. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Winchendon, American Legion in multiple towns, and the Otter River Sportsman's Club, where he spent several years on the Board of Directors and two years as their President.

Chuck joins his parents, Norman and Kathryn Schrawder, brother Harold Schrawder, wife Carol Schrawder, daughter Marla Whittle, son Ryan Schrawder, and son-in-law Scott Whittle.

He is survived by sister-in-law Barbara of Pennsylvania; two sons: Brent Schrawder and wife Elisha of Leominster; Clayton Shaffer and wife Julie of Colorado; three grandsons: Bryce Schrawder, Cameron Whittle with wife Veronica, and Conner Whittle; two granddaughters, Breanna and Sabrina; and great granddaughter Lucy.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11 AM at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bridge Street, Templeton.

Family and friends are invited to join us at a celebration of life for Chuck at Otter River Sportsman's Club, 250 Lord Rd., Baldwinville, MA immediately follow the graveside service. Food and drink will be provided by Cafe Catering.

Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, is directing arrangements.

    Paula Gael Grimes

    PAULA GAEL (HARDIMAN) GRIMES)
    September 19, 1935 ~ June 28, 2026 (Age 90)

Paula Gael (Hardiman) Grimes, of Braintree, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the home of her son, Brian, in Winchendon, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 90 years old.

Born in Boston on September 19, 1935, Paula was the cherished daughter of the late George and Mary (Capuano) Hardiman. She was raised in Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, attended Boston public schools, and graduated from Cardinal Cushing Central High School for Girls in South Boston. As one of thirteen children, Paula treasured the close-knit family she grew up in and remained deeply connected to her siblings throughout her life.

On November 18, 1967, Paula married the love of her life, James Lawrence Grimes. Together they built a home filled with faith, love, and unwavering devotion to one another and to their family. For Paula, nothing was more important than the people she loved. Whether gathered around the dinner table, celebrating holidays, or simply spending quiet time together, she found her greatest joy in being surrounded by family.

From an early age, Paula's life was guided by her Catholic faith. Her relationship with God remained the cornerstone of her life, shaping her compassion, generosity, and quiet strength. She faithfully attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary each day, and found great comfort in the beauty of sacred hymns. Earlier in life, she answered a call to religious life by serving five years with the Poor Clares Monastery. She later shared her faith with countless children as the Religious Education Coordinator at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree, where she lovingly taught them about God's enduring love.

Paula possessed a lifelong love of learning and reading, especially enjoying the mystery novels of Agatha Christie, whose intricate stories and memorable characters delighted her for decades. She also expressed her creativity through art and later found great joy in knitting blankets for newborn babies, creating treasured keepsakes for growing families.

She found beauty in life's simple gifts--the color blue, cheerful daisies, fragrant tea roses, and peaceful moments shared with those she loved. Her gentle spirit, quiet kindness, and steadfast faith left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Paula's legacy is one of humble service, enduring faith, and unconditional love. She lived not through grand accomplishments but through daily acts of kindness, countless prayers, and unwavering devotion to her family and to God. Her example will continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.

Paula was the beloved wife of James Lawrence Grimes, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Pamela Florek and her husband, Vincent, of Westford; Albert Grimes and his wife, Dr. Jennifer Grillo, of Andover; and Brian Grimes and his wife, Renee, of Winchendon, whose loving care and devotion during Paula's final months brought great comfort to her and the entire family.

She was the cherished grandmother of Destiny-Eve Grimes of Winchendon, Vincent Florek of Westford, Ella Grimes of Andover, and Liam Grimes of Andover.

Paula was the dear sister of Kathleen McLaughlin of Newton, Mary Meredith of West Roxbury, David Hardiman of Weymouth, Brenda O'Reilly of Walpole, Eugene "Chris" Hardiman of Illinois, and Paul Hardiman of Illinois. She was predeceased by her siblings Albert Hardiman, John "Jack" Hardiman, George "Bud" Hardiman, Walter "Butch" Hardiman, Gerard Hardiman, and Virginia "Ginny" Hardiman.

She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all who were blessed to know her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 4-7 PM in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home NORTH WEYMOUTH at 40 Sea Street (off Route 3A - Bicknell Square). A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. ClareCs Church, Braintree at 10 AM on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

Interment will follow at Braintree Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Paula's memory may be made to the charitable organization of one's choice.

    Charlie R. Perkins

    CHARLIE R. PERKINS
    January 1, 1964 ~ June 26, 2026 (Age 62)

Charlie R Perkins, 62, of Templeton, MA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 26th, due to multiple health issues.

Born in Athol, MA, Charlie (aka Chaz, Chazlie, The Big Guy) lived most of his life in Templeton, MA, graduating from Narragansett High School in 1983.

Charlie proudly served in the United States Air Force Pararescueman wearing the distinctive red beret of a "PJ" (someone who would jump out of a perfectly fine airplane to save someone in peril.) After an injury at his final posting in Elmendorf, Alaska, Charlie medically retired as a PJ but still lived the PJ motto, "All These Things, So Others May Live". To honor his commitment, he was an organ donor, giving his kidneys and liver to two individuals in need. Charlie was what Mister Rogers would say "a helper in his neighborhood." He lived by the motto--improvise, adapt, overcome.

Charlie worked as a case worker for Servicenet, in Greenfield, MA. His devotion to his clientele, his patience and his ability to remain calm under any circumstance is admired by his colleagues. One of his clients pulled the fire alarm alerting staff that "Charlie needed help" to which his family is incredibly grateful for helping get paramedics to Charlie.

Charlie had so many hobbies; the list is almost endless. From his first love, music, to his latest hobby, Ham Radio (which he was studying to get certified so he and his buddy, Mike could go "listening", his office is filled with books on a wide variety of subjects. His all-time favorite hobby was cooking (although we're still waiting for him to make the scones he's been promising for us for years now!). Charlie and Sharon also did volunteer work with the Hartford Chamber of Commerce in Hartford, VT every year, spending their annual anniversary weekend helping with the Quechee Balloon Festival.

Those that knew Chaz remember how he loved to talk! His friends and family often teased him about telling "short stories, Chaz! NOT novels!" (again, always with love). Charlie was an aficionado of a fine cigar and a glass of scotch (not that he drank, but it was a favorite memory from a cruise taken to Bermuda with Sam and Lara to celebrate his and Sharon's mutual birthdays). He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, pretty much everywhere he went.

He is survived by his beautiful bride, Sharon, their three children, Samuel Dickens and his wife, Lara; Brian Dickens; and Rowan Dickens and their partner, Jade. He is also survived by his two "bonus daughters", Maryanne Ernst, her future husband, Terry and their daughter, MacKenna; and Kimberly McGraw, her wife, Emily, and their son, Corbin McGraw. While his children were not biologically his, nevertheless he treated them as if they were his own by blood and not marriage. He forged a special and unique relationship with each child (now adults) bonding with each of them via their interests. With Sam, they shared everything about guns and the military. Brian, the musician of the family, shared a mutual love of music with Chazlie, especially guitar and trombone. Last, but by no means least, his beloved Rowan, with whom he shared his love of reading and his lack of artistic ability, all while praising Rowan's incredible artistic talent. Rowan was officially the red headed stepchild, always said with a laugh, a smile and a hug. He loved all three with everything he had.

Charlie is also survived by his loving mother, Mary Perkins, of Fitchburg, who was the light in her eyes. He is predeceased by his father, Charlie (Perk) Perkins who died in 2013, his infant daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth who died in 2003, and where he will be interred next to, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

A military graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Templeton, MA. Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
