"Rex" the T-Rex Helps Park Theatre Open JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION Movie This Week

"Rex" the Tyrannosaurus Rex is pictured at The Park Theatre on Main Street in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Rex (played Sam Giles) is helping The Park Theatre promote the grand opening of the new Universal Pictures summer blockbuster, Jurassic World Dominion that debuts at the theatre on Friday, June 10 with 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. showings and plays for 2 weeks. He will also be telling people about the special advance screening on Thursday night, June 9 ay 9:45 p.m. The critically-acclaimed new film is presented in the 333-seat widescreen Eppes Auditorium with 17-speaker surround sound.

Monadnock folks can see "Rex" at the theatre during the run of the film (until June 23). Patrons can ask Rex to have their photo taken with him. Rex will also be on the streets of Jaffrey, Peterborough and other Monadnock towns talking about his prehistoric buddies starring in Jurassic World Dominion.

End of School Year Discount For Maddie Poppe Concert at Park Theatre

JAFFREY, New Hampshire (June 8, 2022) The school year is ending for students, and The Park Theatre is offering a special "students only" ticket price of just $10 (normally $20) to see American Idol winner Maddie Poppe, in concert on Saturday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Maddie is an American folk singer, musician, songwriter, season 16 winner of American Idol and a Peoples Choice Award winner. She is a multi-instrumentalist—playing the guitar, piano, and ukulele. Before winning American Idol, Poppe released an independent album titled Songs from the Basement. Poppe released her first studio album, Whirlwind, with Hollywood Records in 2019.

Tickets for the special student discount can be purchased online at theparktheatre.org, by visiting the box office, or by calling the box office hotline (603) 532-8888. All major credit cards accepted.

The Park Theatre performing arts center is located at 19 Main Street in downtown Jaffrey, New Hampshire, just 90 minutes from Boston. The facility is fully accessible.

Nova Arts Events This Weekend

Come see what's going on at Nova Arts! On Friday, June 10, two Keene-local-bands, Jake McKelvie & the Countertops and Blue Motel will be playing.

Jake McKelvie & Countertops were formed in Keene nearly a decade ago. The band is known for their catchy, energetic live performances and bouncy stream-of-self-conscious lyrics. Mainstays of the annual Keene Music Festival, this will be their first proper venue performance in town in a handful of years.

Blue Motel is a Keene, New Hampshire based Funk Rock group. With influences ranging from Smokey Robinson and The Miracles to Parliament Funkadelic to The Zombies, Blue Motel emphasizes vocal harmonies and instrumental improvisation in their eternal quest to funkify lives and shake moneymakers.

For both of these events doors are at 7:00 p.m. and the event starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for these events can be accessed on our website novaarts.org, under the event tab. Located at 48 Emerald St., Keene, NH.

June 2022 Events at Dunn State Park

All programs are free and open to the public, a parking fee may apply. Bring water, wear sunscreen/bug spray, and dress for the outdoors. Sturdy footwear is strongly recommended for hiking programs. EXPLORE NATURE HIKE
Mondays, 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Take a hike with us through the woods as we explore the Natural World with guided walks, games, and activities. Each week we will cover a different topic from creepy crawlies to trees, to birds.
Meet at the Visitor Center. Appropriate for ages 6 and above. Approximately one mile over easy to moderate terrain.

FITNESS HIKE
Saturdays, 9:30 am to 10:30 am
Why pay for a gym when you can exercise outdoors? Hike with us and use the exercise equipment along the way.
Meet at the Visitor Center. Appropriate for ages 16 and above. Talk to a doctor before starting any exercise routine.

KIDLEIDOSCIPE
Fridays, 10:00 am to 11:00 am
Join us each week for Kidleidoscope! We will read a short book, followed by a light outdoor activity or a hike. Afterwards, enjoy a kid-friendly craft that relates to the story. Each week has its own theme, so stop by often!
Meet on the Visitor Center deck. Deigned for ages 3 to 6. Siblings are welcome. During inclement weather, this will be held in the Visitor Center.

MOBILE NATURE CENTER
Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
We bring the nature center to you! Check out pelts, skulls, and other items related to the animals that live in the park. Stay for five minutes or an hour! Bring your questions.
Meet on the path next to the beach. Suitable for all ages.

MUCKING ABOUT
Saturdays, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Take a peek under the surface of the Dunn Pond! Explore the bugs, tadpoles, newts and other creatures that live here. We'll use nets and buckets to catch (and then release!) some cool critters. Stay for five minutes or the whole time.
This program takes place at the northeast corner of the pond. Follow the signs to get there. Appropriate for ages 6 and above.

SUPER SENSES HIKE
Saturdays, 9:30 am to 10:30 am
Come join us as we walk the Woodland Trail and explore our 5 senses. See how our senses relate to the animals that call the woods home.
Meet at the Visitor Center. Appropriate for ages 4 and above. An Alternate program will be held at the Visitor Center during inclement weather.

THE FALLEN LOG
Sundays and Fridays, 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
It's amazing how many things live in and on rotting logs. We will take a close look at some fallen logs and see what kind of insects we can find. Be ready to get your hands dirty!
Meet at the Visitor Center. Appropriate for ages 6 and above. About one mile over easy terrain.

Community Foundation Awards Health Care Grants Totaling $102,652 to 10 Local Nonprofits

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts (CFNCM), a public charity serving the philanthropic interests of donors in the north central region of the Commonwealth, has awarded $102,652 in grants to local nonprofits through the Nashoba Valley Health Care Fund. The purpose of the fund is to advance the community health of residents in 11 communities: Ashby, Ayer, Bolton, Groton, Harvard, Lancaster, Littleton, Lunenburg, Pepperell, Shirley and Townsend.

"Our region is fortunate to have impactful organizations serving a wide range of health care needs for our residents," said Stephen Adams, president of the Community Foundation. "We hope these grants will inspire others to deepen our impact by donating to the Nashoba Valley Health Care Fund."

The breakdown of grants is as follows:

  • $20,000 to the Ellie Fund to provide direct financial assistance for cancer patients and their families, as well as support for intentional collaboration to reach more underserved and minority patients.
  • $12,000 to the Ashby Fire & EMS Department for scholarships for local residents to complete EMT and Advanced EMT certification.
  • $11,000 to DetecTogether to support cancer detection education for firefighters.
  • $10,000 to Advocates to support free behavioral healthcare for older adults whose treatment is not covered by Medicare.
  • $10,000 to CASA Project for its Shine the Light program, which provides training for volunteers to assist children exposed to parental substance abuse.
  • $10,000 to YWCA Central Massachusetts to support its Domestic Violence High-Risk Teams, which work within the community's domestic violence response system to identify the most dangerous cases to increase victim safety and offender accountability while closing systemic gaps.
  • $7,500 to MAB Community Services for supportive services for older adults with vision loss, including vision rehabilitation, peer support groups, mental health counseling, assistive technology training and volunteer services.
  • $7,500 to Minuteman Senior Services to support programming for seniors, including a meal program, Medicare counseling, money management training, protective services and caregiver support services.
  • $7,500 to The NAN Project for targeted education, prevention and intervention strategies for students and educators at the Bromfield School, using a peer-to-peer model to reach middle and high school students.
  • $7,152 to the Albert Harris Center to support its Mind Body Nourish program for seniors, which provides behavioral health sessions, access to fitness center classes and intuitive eating workshops.
The Community Foundation's grant programs seek to improve the quality of life in North Central Massachusetts by supporting initiatives that have a capacity for long-term viability, offer thoughtful plans of action and outcome measurements and leverage collaborations.
